Hello!
I'm going to be a freshman this upcoming fall at Boston University.
I've already been looking to become involved in as many activities as possible and start padding up my resume early on for Med School.
I have the option of getting either a job or volunteering at a nearby hospital first semester.
Which one would look more impressive to the top med schools?

yeahh i just assume that doing research freshman year would be difficult
i was thinking of maybe talking to some professors and starting that next year
i just want to make sure I have the best resume possible
i feel like a job would show responsibility
but volunteering in a hospital shows that i'm willing to dedicate my time etc.
i wish i could do both but I dont want to bog myself down my fist semester ya know?

A whole bunch of my roommates applied to Med / Dental school this past year, and they were always stressing about volunteer hours. If you don't need the money from the job, I'd volunteer at a local hospital or clinic.

forget ECs your first year -- focus on studying. College GPA is the most important factor for med school, and then test scores. Unless you attended a top prep school like Andover or TJ, your HS gpa wasn't great (top 30%), nor were your test scores (590 SAT-M). If you can't achieve A's in Frosh Calc and Chem, your ECs won't matter.
