Since there have been quite a few asking about that, I spoke with Nancy Tapko, the health professions adviser. For the past 3 years, the admit rate has been around "high 70s to low 80s%" for first-time applicants. According to her, NU DOES NOT practice any precertifying/prescreening to stop weaker applicants from proceeding like some other schools do.

The national average is around 50%.

nice... got any stats for law school admits? i checked on some of the top schools web sites and NU is up there in terms of the number of students admitted, including Univ of Chicago law. any info on this?

I don't. You can call academic advising office and ask though. Law schools are easier to get in than med schools. So admit rate is probably gonna be pretty high. If it's 80% for premed, I wouldn't be surprised it's 90% and more for prelaw. But the data doesn't mean much anyway. Good premed stats sorta (though not necessarily) indicate strong quality premed clasees--calculus/chem/bio/phys/orgo that prepare students well for MCAT. I don't know if there's such a thing for prelaw. NU does have pretty good placement esp for sending the graduates to its own law school and U of C's (both are in the top-10).

right.. thats what i've seen so far, even UCLA law has Northwestern behind only the top tier UCs and Ivys in terms of their graduates being admitted to the school. U of C's law school had 23 from NU and 23 from U of C, now thats saying something.. thanks anyways for the input. one question though, should i pose this question to admissions or email someone about it? most schools i know arent too receptive of lengthy phone calls. thanks anyways..

I'd call academic advising instead of admission. I think you should call instead of emailing because they probably get tons of emails everyday. It'll take less time from both of you when you call.

The last published stats had NU law applicants being admitted at percentage rates in the mid-90s. I believe you can find updated numbers in this year's Fiske Guide.
