Hey guys,

So i was wondering if after completing my Bachelors in the US I can apply to any elite schools in the UK. I wanted some more information on if they accept students in the first place from the US or not? Please shed some light on it. I am looking forward to applying at Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial College, etc.

I heard from a few friends of mine that they only accept students from UK, or who have completed A levels, is that true?

Any kind of suggestions or help would be much appreciated.

I don’t know about acceptance, but once you have a foreign MD degree there are a lot of testing requirements to become licensed in the US, it can take several years to complete them, and foreign programs may not meet US requirements or be willing to respond to requests for additional information. Residency selection is also a concern for foreign MDs.

Are you looking for a medical education program?

Or a general undergrad program?

While medical education in the UK typically is a 6 year program that begins immediately after high school, there are some programs which will accept students into an accelerated or graduate education version of medical training (4 years) if they have completed a baccalaurate degree in applied or experimental sciences.

It’s extremely difficult/unlikely for a non-UK student to be accepted into accelerated medical programs. Both Cambridge and Oxford’s accelerated programs say specifically they will not accept international applicants.

You can check to see if any other of the programs you’re interested in accepted international applicants by googling the name of school + medicine + admissions and reading the admissions website.

Thanks a lot guys. I believe I might just stick to the US since there is no shortage of good schools here anyway.

Wayoutwestmom is incorrect about international applicants. They have 2 tranches: 1) EU students are admitted and are treated as if they were UK students, which is required by EU law, though in practice it is more difficult; 2) overseas students are admitted, but there are quotas and so very very few are allowed in and tuition is very very high.
Wayoutwestmom is correct about the structure of UK med school (I believe it is similar for Irland as well). You start directly as an undergrad in medicine (largely theoretical as an undergrad) and then must apply for clinical specialization.
Pls i wish u help me with ACT registration in Nigeria, i was directed to register through you.
CollegeConfidential is definitely not the site for ACT registration.
