How is it that Baylor School of Medicine has a tuition about 1/6 the cost of every other medical school??

Don't think that it is 1/6. Maybe for residents of the Republic of Texas 1/4-1/5 of the amount charged by other top 20 med schools. For out of state residents it is 1/2 to 2/3 of comparables. Although a private med school, Baylor College of Medicine receives support from Texas to subsidize the tuition of Texas residents. BCM also has an endowment of nearly $1 billion, which, unlike many of its peers, it does not share with a university.

Yeah... but there is a good chance i will be going to Rice University , and will be a resident of TX, so the in-state tuition would apply to me

I don't know the answer to your question, but I will tell you that I was a Texas boy who graduated from Baylor Med School in the late 70's, and I recall that my tuition was only about $400 per semester. I received generous need-based assistance in the form of non-loan grants from Baylor to help with my tuition, books, and housing costs. I graduated med school with very little debt. To top it all off, my college tuition and books at UT were paid for by need-based federal grants- BEOG (Basic Educational Opportunity Grants) that were available back in the Jimmy Carter days. Wow- I am very grateful to everyone that helped me, and I try to give back now whenever I can.
