Med School

Hey guys im an upcoming 11th grader and I am looking into colleges and i messed up badly this year. My current gpa is around a 92 but I have not taken the 5 AP courses that I am next year. My worst regents exam grades were 64 in algebra 2/ trig and also a 68 in physics and 72 in Bio. My final average in bio was 85 and physics was 81 and and trig was a 76. I am hoping to pick up my grades a lot next year and i am planning on taking the ACT and SAT which i can guarantee a good grade on. My class rank is 200. My goal is to get into the medical program in SUNY Stonybrook. Do you think i can achieve that? or any other medical program basically? I also am taking subject tests too so i guess that will matter. Thanks for your help! I am also going to be in Honors Society and a tennis team captain and league champions and i have a lot of volunteer hours in the hospital. I played basketball in highschool for two years and also play the piano in competitions. I am also adding an internship with a doctor over the summer. Also i am looking to organize a charity event. Will this all help me getting into medical school?

You don’t apply to medical school out of high school. You need to get a bachelor’s (undergraduate) degree first.

As for undergraduate major, you can major in anything you wish, but you must complete the med school pre-requisite classes. You also need a high GPA and high MCAT scores.

what about just getting into Stonybrook or a good college. Is there a good chance?

Hey! I think you definitely have a chance at Stony Brook because even though your test scores weren’t too hot you still have your overall grades for those classes as well as some really good extra curriculars. I think that the fact you took both Physics and Bio this year is astounding (considering I myself am not a science person). Plus we still have another year of regents to take. Good luck!

wow thank you that made me so happy!

A lot will ride on your act/sat so prep very seriously and establish a balanced list with 2safeties (schools you like, can afford, an k ow you’ll get into), a couple match es, then a couple reaches.
