Medalist Scholoraships

Award notification is supposed to be this week. Has anybody received notification yet? I believe this will be via USPS.

the letter was waiting for me when i got home today. letter was dated and postmarked 3/19/2007, but i am an ohio resident.

i was actually a presidential scholarship candidate and interviewed at OSU during their interview weekend... so i have been waiting for this letter for a few weeks now. i, however, did not receive the presidential scholarship.

glad to know there is at least a medalist scholarship for me. =)

good luck to all others!!

congradualtions classicdorkette!!!

Well....no letter today either.

"Congratulations Classic Dorkette". Now there's an acclamation you don't hear every day. :)

Congratulations from me too.

And no letters received at our humble home either. Bummer.

PennilessParent ~ If I remember correctly you are out of state....you still have hope!!! Unless a miracle happpens, my son will not be going to OSU now. Still going to try, but realistically it is not going to happen.

Good Luck to those still in the running.

Mom - I'm in state (but a couple hours from Columbus, so it's rather like being out on the frontier :) ). Anyway, we got the tube letter from Maximus today. No medalist for the prodigal son. Oh well.

We.re still counting on the Distinguished for NMFs anyway since he designated OSU first choice. So we have another couple weeks to wait. Either way, he is signed, sealed and delivered already. OSU was the only school he applied to. He had his life figured out pretty early - at least with regard to college.

It arrived today. D received the Medalist.

<<happy dance="">></happy>

Penniless: What happens if a student receives both the Distinguished and the Medalist? Obviously the former is better. Do they perhaps not give Medalists to those that will receive the Distinguished?

For those who might be reading this down the road: Medalist is full in-state tuition awarded after the Maximus competition. Distinguished is full in-state tuition plus $4500 for National Merit Finalists who designate OSU as their number 1 by March 1st.

Good question, Mary. I'm not sure whether there is any connection or not. From other things OSU has said about scholarships, I assume that they don't pyramid on each other, i.e., you can't make money above expenses by getting OSU scholarships. You just get the best one.

I think another call or email to OSU is in my immediate future. This is going to be a long couple of weeks.

And before I forget, Mary, congratulations to your D!

thank you for all your congratulations!

i had a friend who received both the medalist and distinguished scholarships last year... he did not end up going to ohio state, but i remember him telling me that he would only be awarded the highest award.

edit--
MaryTN, is your daughter a NMF (by the way, congrats to her)? i have a snippet in my letter that directly answers your question (i forgot about this, hence the edit in my post).

"As a potential National Merit & Distinguished Scholar here at The Ohio State University, you may receive our Distinguished Scholarship package valued at full in-state tuition plus $4500 per year for 12 years... More information on the Distinguished Scholarship will arrive in the mail in early April. Should you be awarded the higher value Distinguished Scholarship, it will replace the Medalist Scholarship.

hope that helps! =)

No, D is not a National Merit Semifinalist. She was not very motivated on the PSAT.

Your snippet had the answer. Now I wonder how many Medalists are handed out down the road as the Distinguished are sent out as well as students deciding to go elsewhere.

Congrats Dorkette on being a Presidential finalist! 30 out of 6000 OSU freshman achieve that honor. wow

congradulations to your daughter MaryTN

I misunderstood my son, he got the letter yesterday informing him he did NOT receive either the Presidential (we alredy knew that) or the Medalist.

Yes, today I received a letter too saying I got the medalist.
