Median COLUMBiA GPA:

What is the median Columbia College GPA? NYU Stern is 2.7..afraid.

I heard SEAS is a 2.7 ....CC is definately ALOT higher though

YiKES..anyone else?

In my Frontiers class, we looked at a study comparing SAT scores and GPA after the first year (a sample of 100 first years). The average GPA was 3.374 with an error of 0.051 points; it was said to be consistent with the average GPA for the entire class (2008) after freshman year.

Shraf, why do you keep posting knowingly false information about the SEAS median GPA? Can you please tell the board where you "heard" that? I've already explained to you that your statement is totally baseless.

oh i got it from a SEAS '03 graduate..... this may only be true of BME though.... not a big deal, point is its lower than CC

bme?............

I'm curious -- PM me the name of the SEAS '03 BME that you know if you're comfortable. I know most of them.

While SEAS may have a lower GPA than CC, the average SEAS GPA (overall or within any major) is nowhere near 2.7. A GPA of 2.7 is absurdly low.

As I've said before, the hardest classes are generally curved to, at worst, a B-. For the average SEAS GPA to be a 2.7, pretty much every class would have to have a B- curve. Many science and engineering classes are inflated. And, 1/4 to 1/3 of your SEAS classes are grade-inflated liberal arts classes.

Wait, so does that mean that there a ppl with 3.3 gpa's getting into Columbia?

absolutely not...learn how to read, we are talking about avg college GPAs.

that was ice cold.

Maybe students are just getting smarter...you ever thought of that?

I hate the way they blame grade inflation without any basis at all...

i <3 GRADE INFLATION!

Not by that much. The average SAT scores at the top colleges have gone up slightly over time. Every class is smarter than the previous class, but the differential isn't commensurate with grade inflation.

There are extensive studies and statistics on grade inflation. To say that there isn't "any basis," is totally off base.

Most people do. Grade inflation ultimately hurts the top students who aren't able to distinguish themselves so easily.
