Median grade at Cornell

The generalization about the overall grade inflation/deflation at a college really doesn't have much of a relevance to the individual. Grade distribution is heavily dependent on major. Looking at my transcript, out of the 32 courses I've taken at Cornell, only 4-5 had medians of A-'s or higher. The rest had medians that were lower. I'm a science major so that distribution is not so surprising.

are the A+ classes 3 credit classes? if so, what are they?

a few years ago AEM121 had a median of A+

It's not that hard to check...just go to the Cornell MEdian grade lists on the Cornell Registrar Site.

http://registrar.sas.cornell.edu/Student/mediangradesA.html

Courses with median grades of A+ in Fall 2006:

AIR S211 EVOL US AIR AND SPACE POWER I (ROTC)
AIR S401 NATL SEC AFF / PREP ACT DUTY (ROTC)
ALS 134 EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (elective)
ENTOM264 PRACTICAL BEEKEEPING
H ADM410 HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT SEMINAR
ILRHR266 ESSENTIAL DESKTOP APPLICATIONS <--learn how to use Word
MIL S211 LEADERSHIP LAB (ROTC)
MUSIC333 CORNELL CHORUS
NS403 TEACHING APPRENTICESHIP
PAM340 ECONOMICS OF CONSUMER POLICY
...etc

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that most of the A+ median grade classes are all either ROTC, useless electives, courses with less than 20 people, sub-3 credit courses useless for your major, bullsh&t filler classes, etc.

norcalguy,

Agree. I notice AEM classes tend to have much more grade inflation than general chem/bio.

theslowclap,

I heard HP were gonna do something to change that. Not sure if anything has actually been implemented. Those are 2000 data and since Cornell has been under the radar for criticism, it's grade inflation has been unchecked and may be aporoaching Harvard's level by now. I was just kidding when I said it might be more than Harvard; I actually have no idea. But those median grades did surprise me somewhat.

Entom264 Practical Beekeeping

LOL!

Nothing wrong with taking an occasional ROTC class to raise your GPA.

yeah, we should take more of those classes with median grades of A+. Wow, I didn't know there are classes where almost all students get at least A's or higher

MY SAT scores score in the 50th percentile range for Cornell. Does that mean I will most likely get the median grades in courses...or at least increase my odds?

They say that GPA predicts frosh year grades more accurately than SAT scores.
