Medical assisting

Hey! Im currently planning to attend community college for financial reasons, and I am planning to complete a medical assisting certificate on the side. This enables me to use it to work as a medical assistant as one of my ECs, and earn some money too.
Is this a good idea?
Any comments or concerns?
Thanks yall!

If you are at all able to do dental hygiene, respiratory therapy, RN, or X-ray tech, I would do those. Medical assisting tasks used to be done by a person who worked in a medical office, and just learned to help out on some things. Then it became a 6 month certificate, then a one year certificate, and now a two year AS. But the pay is low, and there are plenty of people out there with this certification, because it’s such an easy to obtain certification. If there is no reason for you to get contact hours (such as if you were planning to try for PA school), then you should just try to get a good paying job that you can work while you’re in community college.

Do you just want to get a two year degree? Or are you hoping to move on to a 4 year degree? If so, do you have any idea what you would like to major in?

I think it’s a good idea. You can work as a medical assistant during the day, get some patient contact, and work on your undergrad degree taking evening classes or something like that.
