medical career for a unique person (need help)

hey guys, I've posted on here before about my possibility for a medical career and I appreciate the advice I was given. I've seen a couple posts about" is medical right for me?" and i just wanted to add my bit to that. I know you're thinking "great another one of these" but i've got a bit of history and stats that most ppl that write these may not....

-enjoyed AP chem and general chem (4 on test, w/ a lot of studying)

-enjoyed freshman bio, especially genetics and evolution, but didnt take AP bio (i'm just reading through the book myself, because, frankly, the teacher shouldn't be teaching an AP class)

-I'm decent at math and somewhat like it, but it is my least fav. subject. I've always had A's through pre-calc. but now i have a B (w/ a curve!) in my AP calc and a B+ (w/ a curve) in my AP stats---however, i do enjoy stats.

-Good at english and languages (4 on AP lit and langauge)

This is where I believe I may stand out. I was diagnosed w/ a very rare spinal tumor when I was 7 and then again at age 11. Both were 10 hr. surgeries. At age 14 I had rods put in my back because I had developed Caiphosis (like skuliosis but the spine curves vertically as well as horizontally.) But now I'm through w/ all of that and am doing well, albeit w/ some minor back pain after long walks or manual labor. I feel like my experiences in the hospital (30+ MRIs, 50+ x-rays, 2 CT's, and about a mile of I.V's) could really help me to cope with people in their time of need in the hospital setting.

The only thing I am somewhat worried about is my math ability. Sometimes its just like "I cant get it." I have a 650 math SAT and a 29 math ACT. I'm valedictorian at a private school and have a 4.0/4.0 gpa. I study very hard and love community service.

o.k now that U have spent like 5 min. reading this, please post ur ideas. Thanks guys.

medical schools only require that you take Calc I and II, which isn't bad at all

there is no math section on the MCAT

the physics is very simple (HS level)

actually most schools don't even require Calc II. My general advice to everyone is to take Calc I and statistics. BDM recommends up to Calc III, but not necessarily as a benefit for medical school, just in general. If you aren't good at math, I'm pretty sure he'd let it slide. Just keep in mind that some majors may require you take well beyond calc I, so choose wisely.

Also, it's spelled as kyphosis.

And scoliosis.

You have been reading the CC boards too long where everyone seems to have a 800 on the math SAT. 650 on the math SAT means you have above average math ability. You are not going to MIT for a math PHD. Since very little math is needed in medical school, do not worry about this.
