Medical Club

hi i founded a medical club and I'm wondering what activities I can do, like inviting guest doctors, field trips to hospitals, discussing current issue sin the medical filed

any more ideaS?

Perform open-heart brain surgery in the gymnasium as an educational experience.

Did I say open-heart brain surgery? Yes, indeed I did. That's what makes it so challenging.

or u can do the more typical stuff that most med school admission officers know of, u know probably pizza w/ coke or if all goes well probably pop in a dvd ahh i know all 6 seasons of scrubs!!! =D

Oh my god, that would be the greatest Scrubs-a-thon ever! I'm waiting for season 6 to come out on DVD (it's on my computer for now), so I can watch 1-6 straight through.

Does your school provide you access to e-journals? If yes, look up latest publications in areas that interest you.

Circulate the pdf file 1 week prior to journal club meetings, always order food for a lunch time journal club (this gets more people to attend!), invite a Senior member who should help you analyze the results. Presentations should be rotated amongst journal club members. Everyone else gets to brainstorm.
Organizing Journal clubs have been by far the most enjoyable part of my grad life and continues to be even in my R&D work life!

If you are located in NY/NJ/CT area, I can give you a lot more pointers about local science societies where you can attend conferences for incredibly reduced rates and hear presentations from top scientists (nobel laureates included).

Lastly, attend 'The Bodies' exhibition with all your journal club members. If your school can pay for it. That will be an additional bonus.

i have heard about the AMSA clubs. i think they are collegiate chapters of the AMSA (american medical student assoc?). look into it. if there are multiple premed clubs on campus, you might want to rethink about starting a new one...unless you can really stand out. advertise heavily.
