hello...
I need some help. I am a college sophomore, a neuroscience major...and I am planning on going to grad school after college....
I just got an offer from the Medical College of Wisconsin to do 10-week summer research program in a neuroscience lab there. It sounds really exciting, but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the school in general, or the program itself? They want me to confirm pretty soon, but I am still waiting for a few more responses, so don;t know what to do.... Also, what is Milwaukee like??I am an international student...and really don't know much about Wisconsin.
Thank you!

Delusion,
Sorry I don't have answers to your questions, but I have one for you. My d is also a neuroscience major and is currently applying for summer research internships in the field. How did you know about this and when did you apply for it?

My d has worked professionally as a dancer/singer and only after going to Barnard did she discover her interest in neuroscience, so she has never done anything exactly like this before...

Well, basically I found out by googling SURP neuroscience and I got a long, long list of schools that have summer programs for undergraduates in the area. I checked out different programs' webpages and applied to a bunch that I liked the most. Almost all deadlines were February the 1st. However, you could check out the University of Cincinnati SURF. Their deadline is March 1st and the program is quite good too! ...Also, the application is on line and it does not take that long as long as you have a personal statement written already....good luck to your daughter!

Thanks so much. She did apply to one with a Feb 1 deadline and found a couple more she was interested in with later deadlines...

As I said, this is all so new to her. She did well in science in HS but was in "inspired" do want to major in anything like this until she hit college. She is hoping she will be able to get some sort of lab experience this summer!

The Medical College of Wisconsin is fantastic, one of the best in the region. Milwaukee is a medium-sized city of maybe around half a million residents; not a really exciting place but fine for a ten-week stay. Chicago is not far away. It sounds like a terrific opportunity. Lucky you!

thanks, greenblue! this sounds really encouraging.....are you from that region?
