Does anyone have information on medical genetics? I was thinking of maybe doing a combined Peds/MG residency. Is it hard to secure a position (doesn't seem like there is much demand)? Thanks.

I wasn’t personally aware of a specialty known as medical genetics. However, medical genetics can be pursued via research in any specialty more or less.

I’ve heard medical genetics is one of the lowest paid specialties. I can’t say how competitive it is to match into it because there are so few spots.

MG compensation in terms of billing…low, but there’s a multiple different opportunities in terms of research, some public health considerations and directing labs.

The demand…almost by definition you’re going to be tied to an academic setting - more than likely at a children’s hospital.

There’s not a whole lot of competition for the spots, because not a lot of people know about it, or they assume they need to peds (most geneticists do pediatrics, but it’s by no means an absolute requirement), or they’re simply not interested.

Try google.
