I am trying to complete my fin aid forms right now, and I heard the medical insurance is about $2000. is that right?

I am so unsure! Does it state whether Brown adds med health/insurance in its fee count?

Do you know how many books you can buy with that??

I don't know anything!!!! just that I wrote to a brown undergraduate yesterday asking him about the fin aid forms. and he told me to be very careful about them since their fin aid doesn't cover plane tickets and medical insurance, and that the medical insurance is about $2000.

I understand about fin aid not covering transportation fees but I should think that med would...hmmm, some schools do include that in their "extra" fees or "comprehensive", others don't.

Did he specify, though, as to howto fill out the form as to maximize aid you could get that could be put towards the medical insurance?

not quite....but I think I should get them alright.or at least I hope so. but anyways,as you said. each school has its own policy.

My health insurance (at Penn) is about $2000. Generally financial aid packages don't take health insurance into consideration because the university expects that the majority of incoming students will be covered by their parents' policies while they are in college.

sorry for the stupid question. but your health insurance has to be paid annualy, meaning $2000/year???? that much? :(

Here at Amherst Health insurance is covered by the college, through a supplemental scholarship of about $850. The policy is an ok one, but it does have some co-pays ($10 for generics, $25 for brand-name drugs) and does not cover dental expenses. I think the college can actually cover emergency dental expenses out of its own money though.
Anyway, the value of medical insurance fluctuates from state to state - it is reputedly high in PA.
However, what is being asked of you on the FSFAA is simply the amount of money your family currently spends on medical expenses, in the country where you find yourself at the moment, both insurance and out-of-pocket.

no...I was asking this because the person I wrote to about the fin aid forms told me to be careful about the amount of money I will be able to give, considering there also is the medical insurance that has to be covered.

yep, $2000 a year. That is expensive (in comparison to some places) though, as borogoro said. It's the most annoying thing about being in the US - I spend more on my health insurance than I do on my tuition!
