hey… does anyone know when the invitations to apply for this program will be sent out?

They send them out after admission letters. Last year someone I know got one on March 12, 2005. And the invitations to apply go out to everyone who meets the minimum GPA/SAT criteria (4.0 or higher high school GPA and SAT > 2250 or ACT > 34).

only 12 ppl get in annually

Only 12??! Wow... well, I definitely won't be one of those 12, haha.

I'm hoping I get in to UCSD though.

Prays

i havent got an acceptance letter yet but i got an invitation

yeah me too. good luck smiley-faced person. lol

We received one also.

hey guys, congrats on the invitations! i'm currently in the program...if you have any questions, just let me know.

what do you think was your hook? how hard is it compared to other pre med programs?

Does getting the invitation imply acceptance?

K9Unit: yeah i'm pretty sure the invitation implies acceptance to UCSD.

so far it's really not that bad...you're just a regular undergrad student. not many people know about the program so there's nothing that really differentiates you from any of the other undergrads at UCSD. the only thing really difficult about the program is that you have to maintain a 3.5 gpa...but if you want to go to med school, then your gpa would have to be at least a 3.5 anyway. you just don't have to worry at all about applying to schools or studying for and taking the mcats.

i'm really not sure what my "hook" was...i'm pretty well-rounded. one thing i think is important is to have a good reason as to why you want to be a doctor...something more than the "i want to help people" reason.

good luck to you guys!

This is from the word doc that came with the email invitation:

"Application to this program is by invitation only.

All high school seniors admitted to UCSD as freshman undergraduates, and who meet the preliminary eligibility requirements of the medical scholars program, are invited to apply. Declared undergraduate major is not considered a factor. "

So I guess we're in. Woot

hello2u, could you tell us what your reason was for being a doctor?

I know what you are trying to emphasize.... Do you think that our parents are forcing/influencing us to be in this career...?????
Asian parents in particular

Any idea how many people apply?

We received a reminder email:

"*** REMINDER ***

Dear UCSD Undergraduate Applicant:

You recently received an email invitation to apply to the UCSD Medical Scholars Program.

If you plan to apply to the program, please remember that all information must be received at the School of Medicine Admissions Office no later than March 20th."

just make your reasons for wanting to be a doctor based on something personal...a certain event that occurred, some experience that you had.

i'm not sure how many people apply...i believe it was about 500 who qualify...and then the percentage of that who want to go to med school

i dont quite understand the "letter of intent to apply." how long should it be and what should it say? isn't an application enough to signal the fact that you want to apply?

Today is the deadline. How many of you applied? Stats, thoughts?

applied
