Medical School Interview Attire (Female)--Help, Please.

No need to worry, I’m sure in a garment bag that her suit should be fine with no additional ironing needed. Good luck to her. Of course steaming while in the shower helps any small creases.

Phew! And thanks again.

@Belle315

There are several YouTube videos on how to fold a suit to minimize wrinkles.

Also if your D folds a sheet of tissue paper or plastic (like a dry cleaner’s bag or plastic kitchen trash bag) in the middle of the garment, it will help prevent wrinkles which are caused by the friction of the layers of fabric rubbing against each other.

And if your D is around your house --learning to press slacks is pretty simple & straight-forward. It will take maybe 4 or 5 minutes to demonstrate. (She only has to press the legs, not the whole garment. It’s about like ironing a pillow case–which is what I practiced on to learn when i was a kid.)

And a pro tip: hotel irons are not to be trusted. Always use a press cloth (a hotel hand towel works Ok in a pinch) to protect the fabric when ironing. Hotel irons often have dirty sole plates or leak. Both can damage fabric. (Yes, I’m a seamstress. I’ve even tailored men’s sports coats.)

Great tips, @WayOutWestMom. I think we’ll take a minute to learn to press slacks. I’m not very good at ironing, actually. My H does almost all of our ironing, but I can do simple things like slacks legs :slight_smile:

I had a bad experience with a hotel iron once, but I don’t think I would have remembered to share that with D, so thanks for that reminder.

Ann Taylor is have a terrific sale: 20% off 1 item; 30% off any 2 items; 40% off any 3 items.

They have suiting separates (jackets, skirts, slacks, sheath dresses) in a variety of styles and sizes. Including tall, petite and curvy. Black. Navy. Black herringbone. Black tweed. Black pinstripe.

Yes! I was there today and got a very nice suit and blouse for D. The discount was great!

And I can confirm that Nordstrom does alterations on items not bought in the store. There is a small upcharge, but I still found it to be reasonable.

So glad that part of things is over. The best part: D didn’t complain and said she actually liked the suit. Miracles do happen.

Thank you all for your help!
