hey. ive applied and been accepted to a few combined ba/md programs and am considering the cost of medical school as a factor in my decisions. does anybody have any information about how med school merit scholarships are given or if they are even available? im specifically considering these med schools: drexel, stony brook, mcv, and u.miami-miller. thanks in advance.

Medical schools as a general rule do have merit scholarships available when the time comes. They are very competitive and you should assume that you will not win them.

ok. but, what kind of stats would one need to have to be considered for these scholarships? (i.e. 4.0 GPA and 39 MCAT?) or is the criteria for giving scholarships different at every school?

It's different at every school and generally does not revolve around statistics anyway.

It helps to check out the on-line Daily newspaper of the schools you are comparing. Some schools feature their top students every week. You can read up about their accomplishments and the amount of scholorships they earned.

For the school my S was considering, I found that GPA and MCATs were not the determining factors. ECs weighed more than GPA. And the top amount awarded was around $35,000.
