Medical School Process

Okay... So i heard that going to Medical School or completing it is a very challenging and long process.

First off, im in highschool. So what impact would my first 4 years of college/undergrad university have for the following 4 years? Are the following 4 years(after under-grad) used as a requirment for medical school(getting a required degree).

Is it best for my under grad school to be decent? If i were to go to somewhere.. lets say, Fordham University. What difference would it have for going to my grad school?

Further info, i want to go to medical school to have a residence in being a neurologist.

Read this, and the resources it points to: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/pre-med-topics/1486654-premed-resources-thread-start-here-first.html

It should answer all of your questions.

Med school is challenging. But getting in is the biggest step. Once you are in, you have to try to fail…
Second, going to Fordham would be excellent. Any solid school is fine if you work hard.

I’m wondering if it depends on the undergrad university also. I’m attending a 4-year state school. How does it affect it?

that is also addressed ad nauseum in the stickies

please everyone, for all the regulars’ sakes, don’t start this debate up again.

It was just a question…

woops read the stickie (I think that was what that was??) and looks like number 9 and another number 7 are off… There is no pre-med committee and my advising before I registered for classes was nearly zip to none. Also, there are 15,000 students there, not 7,000 as recommended…

I think IWBB made that comment because a link to the stickies was given in post #2.

When I first joined CC, I spent the first 6 months just lurking. I read threads to pick up the basics and FAQs and got a feel for who were the most knowledgeable and experienced members. Just a thought…

Right I read the stickie in post #2. This is how I saw that #9 and #7 were wrong for the uni I am now at.

Some people might not want to wade, though, there are many threads here which are not giving advice and asking about admissions, not really any discussions going on ATM. I TRIED to look, really I did, but it seemed vague to me…

"Also, there are 15,000 students there, not 7,000 as recommended… "

The guide says most students prefer which is not the same as recommended.

Many state schools enroll a single class of 7-10,000 people each year. They are still considered top notch.

You’re not going to like reading academic papers, then. :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously, it may take some effort, but the best thing you can do for yourself is look at a bunch of resources/opinions and synthesize the information, rather than ask for answers to common questions. The answers you’d get might be biased based on personal experiences, or apathy – for example, your question pops up so often that it often goes unanswered, since people are sick of regurgitating the same answers time and again. You’ll learn a lot more by looking for things on your own (or by passively absorbing information that you come across), than by having answers handed to you. :)
