Hello.

I am currently a senior in high school interested in going to medical school. During the summer before I enroll in college, I will take part in the NIH Summer Internship Program. Can I list this internship on my medical school application resume if I do intend to apply to medical school in the future? Can I list this internship in any resume I make from now on that pertains to college?

Thanks in advance!

it counts starting the summer before freshman year

What if I have done research during high school? Would it be advised to put this high school research experience on my medical school application? Or, does it only “count” post high school graduation?

Thanks again!

Yeah it starts right after you graduate. Unless you did something amazing during high school years, I wouldn’t put it.

If you got a publication, then you can put it on your med school app. Otherwise, don’t put HS research on the app.

If it was meaningful, I personally would put research experience done in high school. Definitely put down any publications. Neither will count as much as college research (and definitely will not replace it), but if you are interested in academic medicine I don’t think it is a bad thing to emphasize a long history of involvement in investigations.
