Medical School

Im a college freshmen looking to be an ER doctor and go to medical school. Im really worried about the MCAT. I heard that it is a very hard exam and Im really anxious about it. Anyone know how to pass the MCAT with a good score? Anyone know the best major that prepares you very well for the MCAT? I currently want to major in Biochemistry.

@Mr.Spock123

The MCAT is a difficult exam because it’s long (6+ hours) and because it can’t be passed by just by memorizing stuff.

There are tons of MCAT prep materials available, as well as prep classes. It’s important not only to have a strong academic foundation in the topics covered, but also to be familiar with testing format. (HINT: it’s nothing like the SAT or ACT.)

The most important skill to master for the MCAT is the ability to read & analyze information dense material quickly & accurately.

There is no “best” major that will prepare you for the MCAT. You prepare yourself for the MCAT by reviewing the subjects included on the exam, by doing practice exams, and by developing strong critical reading & thinking skills.

According to AMCAS data, the majors with the highest average MCAT scores are philosophy and mathematics–but this result is most likely due to selection bias.
