Im a incoming sophmore and i have really been inspired by the medical world, but i have no idea what to expect and how to prepare, does anyone know what i should do to get into medical school?
What is pre med? Do i need to take it??
What is a Mcat and how do i study for it?
Are there any classes i should be taking in highschool?
Im very clueless to say the least, any and all help would be appreciated!
- Pre-med is an intention to pursue an admission to medical school. It’s not any particular major.
Many students who plan on medical school after college major in biology, chemistry or biochemistry because there is significant overlap with the required coursework for med school admission. But majoring in one of those field isn’t necessary.
- MCAT = Medical College Admission Test. It’s a 6.5 hour standardized exam testing topics in biology, genetics, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, statistics, sociology, psychology, human behavior, medical ethics. It also tests reading comprehension, analytical thinking skills, critical evaluation skills, and problem solving.
You cannot study for the MCAT until you have completed the required pre-med college classes. You don’t have the necessary knowledge base yet.
- In high school, you need to develop a solid foundation in science and mathematics. This means taking honors level or higher coursework in biology, chemistry, physics and math. You need to take at least pre-calc in high school
Thank you so much! That was really helpful.
