do you guys know what percent of wesleyan grads get into the medical school of their choice for grad school? how good is wesleyan for science?

"Over the last five years (1999 - 2003 entering classes), Wesleyan graduates with overall grade point averages of 3.5 or above have acceptance rates ranging from 83% to 100%. Medical schools accepting Wesleyan students for 2003-2004 academic year included Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth, Albert Einstein School of Medicine, Howard, The University of Michigan, The University of California-San Francisco, and nearly two dozen others (See List #2)"

Wesleyan is among the best in undergrad science in terms of quality of what goes on in the classroom and lab-along with Williams, Haverford, Swarthmore, + maybe Amherst. Good metrics to go by is the national peer-reviewed funding (NSF/NIH) and # of undergrads who co-author papers. This is a case where a small grad school helps...Their kids may not do quite as well as the other 3 for med school (their admits are >>90%), but their standardized testing may not be quite as good, either, coming in. But still well.

Re science at Wes. From the Wesleyan website:

"No. 1 in National Science Foundation (NSF) Funding among Liberal Arts Peers
This is an objective ranking based on available NSF funding data. Between 2001 and 2003 Wesleyan received $14.49 million in NSF funding (this reflects the most recent data available – Wesleyan was also No. 1 in the previous survey that ran up to 2001). Next closest was Mt. Holyoke at $5.31 million. Carleton was 3rd, Barnard 4th and Wellesley 5th.

No. 1 in Science and Math Publications Among Liberal Arts Peers
Also objective and a very significant ranking within the scientific community, this data set runs between 1994-2004 and shows that Wesleyan had a little less than 1,061 scientific publications during this period. Williams was No. 2 with just over 508 publications. Rounding out the top five were Wellesley No. 3, Swarthmore No. 4, Amherst No. 5."

Medical school acceptance rates are notoriouslyly prone to manipulation; every LAC on the planet claims at one time or another to have had a >90% acceptance rate which is why the Wesleyan website gives a five year range and correlates it with gpa:
