Medication for study abroad

My daughter leaves tomorrow for England for the semester. She takes an anti-anxiety meds (controlled) and also ADD meds (also controlled) as needed. Although she did not need the ADD meds this summer, we did continue filling the prescription for her to take with her. It is a med that needs a new prescription every month. She now has almost enough to last her the semester. As far as the controlled anxiety med, she has one bottle of 15 pills that she rarely needs to take. She asked her dr. for a letter explaining what the meds are and why she is taking them. The doctor gave her a printout of her medical report and hand wrote what they are used for. No letter.

A few questions: Will she have trouble bringing in 3 months worth of a controlled substance into the UK (when really, she should only have 1 month at a time?) Also do you think this computer printout is satisfactory? (no letter) Does she need to report the controlled substance upon entry to UK? She is very nervous about dealing with customs/immigration. Would they refuse entry? Would they take and discard the meds and let her in?! Any help would be appreciated!

My daughter had a controlled drug and one needed inhalers for 4 months…she got a doctor note to put in her luggage. She didn’t need it all but couldn’t get it there so it was “just in case”.
One daughter told me they never asked her about it, she put it in larger checked bag…another said they looked at her purse where she had it but again, not an issue. They both went to UK.

Ask you physician if s/he has any contacts in Britain to suggest. If that doens’t work out, have your D bring documented info on her condition, with prescriptions, and contact a physician through the school upon arrival. If that fails, be ready and able to fedex the required meds.

Do not worry about immigration/customs. Don’t volunteer the information, just go through. The chances they will check are vanishingly small. I have lived in EUrope on and off for nearly 17 years and have never once been checked on entry.

I just carried 4 months worth of medication through US customs from the UK with no problem.
