Does anyone know someone who is or was a Medicine, Health, and Society Major at Vandy? If so what did they think of it? Im thinking about majoring in that but want to learn everything I can about it first. Thanks.

I seem to remember (could be wrong) one of their student bloggers had this major. Perhaps you could find their blogs and take a look? (I think they include contact info.)

My D graduated with a degree in MHS (minor in Sociology) in 2011. It was a great major for her - she loved the flexibility in terms of course offerings. She studied abroad at University of Edinbugh, and the Health & Society course she took there was a terrific complement to her Vandy coursework … it focused on European health care delivery.

My D actually wanted to work in the business side of the music industry after college - she majored in MHS because she was interested in the subject matter. After a couple internships at a label and management firm during school, she decided against the music industry. Today, my D works for a consulting company, setting up electronic medical records systems at hospitals. It’s a terrific job.

that is a wonderful update, Kelsmom. It is always heartening to hear about jobs in this market directly related to an undergrad major.

Kelsmom and her daughter have both had incredible experiences in the road to higher education in our country. I would encourage anyone who wants to learn the importance of flexibility in supporting your son or daughter’s dreams through this process to go back and read many of the prior posts of Kelsmom. ( I consider Kelsmom a CC site treasure) there is no substitute for learning from other family’s authentic journeys through a college education and beyond. Faline2, I have learned a great deal from you and your experiences as well.

GT owes me an email! :)

Thank you for your responses everyone!
