Medill Cherubs Program

Has anyone here applied to, been to, know anything about, or plan on attending the Medill Cherubs program??? I am applying for the summer of 2017 so I would just like any advice on applying, how selective it is, as well as the program itself.

Thanks!

In case you have not viewed this: http://cherubs.medill.northwestern.edu/2016/

@nugraddad yes i’ve been on the site, though it does give some basic information I was just posting this to see if anyone who went can give more specific advice

i attended this past year and was accepted Early Decision to NU @EKolin 50 percent acceptance rate, usually about the same percentage for those applying Early Decision. As far as the program itself, very intensive, but worth it. Instructors are FANTASTIC, and you will be working 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. Great relationships and friends and outside activities

@jfjfjfjf when do you think I should send my application in? I know it is due in mid-late March, but when did you send it? Early March, or earlier (like February)? Also, what kind of journalism experience did you have before the program? I am the Sports Editor of my newspaper and I write for two other sports websites, but other than that I have nothing else. I believe my writing is pretty good (maybe I can send you some articles through personal message here), but do you think that my journalism experience is enough?

Sorry, the above comment was meant for @jfjfjfjfj those usernames are confusingly similar. Also, what did you talk about in your essay. I know the max is pretty short (300 words). I have a draft written already, maybe I can send you that as well? Feel free to say no because you are probably busy, and I am certainly not asking you to proofread or edit my work. In fact, I would prefer if nobody does because I want to send in 100% my own writing. I just would appreciate feedback on my writing quality and maybe the content of my essay IF YOU CAN. Thanks

@EKolin would be happy to look anything over for you. Doesn’t matter when you apply- don’t overthink and over-anxiety everything. anywhere from no to a huge amount of experience is okay. Just make sure you’re a smart kid, and communicate in the essay what you think Cherubs can do for you, not you for Cherubs. pm me

@jfjfjfjfj Is it possible you can look mine as well? I am new to this site, and I am also applying to the same program

@yugiohrocks777 lol I hope we both make it. How much experience do you have?

@jfjfjfjfj I was also a Medill Cherub this year! Had so much fun and I would 100 percent (that’s the AP Style for percent, right?) recommend going to everyone else. Applying regular decision, but I wished I applied early!

@bigboy1738 any tips for applying? I’m sending in my application right after mid-winter break (next week). Also- is it really a 50 percent acceptance rate? I have a hard time believing that only 160 kids apply each year

@EKolin I have no idea what the acceptance rate is. As for the application process, choose your best pieces, do some research into Medill and the program (LOOK AT THE WEBSITE), and make sure it is grammatically sound and everything is spelled right. As a writing program, they’re a little more anal about that.

@bigboy1738 alright thanks. Would you be willing to take a look at my essay or list of experience just to give some broad feedback if you have the time? Also, good luck in your application to Northwestern

@EKolin sure, private message me

@EKolin I know this is kind of late but thank you! Did you get accepted? Let me know how everything went I’m curious

@bigboy1738 how was your expirence? I really love Northwestern as a shool and wish to go

@yugiohrocks777 yeah I was accepted. How about you?

@yugiohrocks777 looking back at my comments on this thread I can see that I really stressed about this a little too much. But I was just nervous I guess. Never been to or applied to any sort of summer program

Haha well its natural when you care about something. I was waitlisted but congrats on your acceptance! its probably be really good for a first summer program. What journalism experience do you have?

Hey I saw that you got in to the program, do you know anyone else on this site or in general online? I got in and I’ve been trying to find other people that were admitted. I also looked on twitter but could only find one person. Anyways congratulations on getting in I can’t wait to meet everyone this summer
