mediocre grades.... chances for admission?

okay so im a junior, male, latino, I live in nyc and go to public school with a strong focus on art. [it's called the High School of Art and Design]
my GPA is probably around a 3.8? [weighted]
SAT 1780 M 570 R 590 W 620.
not too many extracurriculars: noncredit college class, nuclear energy research project and conference, community service at school, art classes outside of school. maybe a credit college class in the fall.
im expecting at least 3-4 in APUSH and APBIO.
I want to be a Pre-med.
So i was wondering...
What schools should i be looking at?

And is it reasonable for me to be looking at liberal arts schools such as Bard, Vassar, Skidmore, Wesleyan, even... dare I say... Swarthmore? These are really my dream schools and given the fact that im artistically inclined, pretty good academically, and a minority, can I count them as options? Money aside [dont want to think about that yet], am I being realistic with my aspirations?

Also, is it a bad decision to go to a liberal arts school if i want to be pre med? Or would a huge research university be more beneficial?

Please help!!!
And thanks a million if you do!!!

Going to an LAC can be very good for pre-med. There more individual attention, and although there might be less cutting edge research, there tends to be tons of opportunity to do some kind of research, because there are no grad students to compete with. And for mad school, grades matter a LOT, so you should go to the kind of school where you think you would thrive…if that’s an LAC, go to one :D

Anyway:

Vassar, Wesleyan and Swarthmore are going to be HUGE reaches for you with the SAT scores you have, even with whatever bump you might get for being a minority. Have you considered retaking the SATs or trying the ACT?

Skidmore and Bard are more likely, though still probably a little reachy, esp. given how competitive schools are these days.

James, some others to possibly consider are Drew (NJ), Clark (MA), Arcadia (PA) and Goucher (MD).

How is a 3.8 mediocre? Thats like all A's and 1 B+...

If anything ur SAT score is mediocre.
