Mediocre grades in science, Med School no longer a possibility?

Hello all, I just received two C+'s in general chem and possibly a B in Biology for freshman year. I don't know my overall GPA but it will probably be around a 3.1. Is med school still a possibility if I raise my grades next year? Generally, do science courses get tougher as I venture into organic and cell biology or do are they a bit easier compared to the weed out courses of gen chem?

Organic is harder than genchem. Biology courses are usually harder, but sometimes get easier; varies from school to school. It is very difficult for any one event to doom you in medical school admissions; what happens instead is that the rest of your application is held to a progressively higher standard.

I was in your shoes last year, and yes I think the classes get harder. When I went to talk to my pre-med advisor, he didn't seem so concerned over my C's. Maybe he's being optimistic? Could be...but the bottom line is if you still want to go to med school, don't let your grades stop you. You could always improve, or even do a post-bac program if necessary. Just try harder next semester. At the end of my sophomore year, I was at around a 3.1, and by the end of my Junior year, I had a 3.5. So it is possible...it's just a matter of how much work you're willing to put in. Cheers to us!

thank you for this thread...i just had a big sigh of relief. I'm really really motivated to bring up my GPA...i'm in the same boat - 3.0 after freshman year with a goal of a 3.5 atleast by the end of junior year.
