Mediocre schools with honors programs that pay tuition

Does anyone know of any schools that have honors programs that pay for most or all of tuition?

So you want a school that provides full rides simply because? No matter what, you’ll need to earn a full ride anywhere.

“Mediocre” schools don’t want someone who thinks of them as “mediocre.”

Search for momfromtexas’s posts/threads. I think you’re on the same page as she was during her sons’ college plans.

There’s also a thread somewhere that’s titled “master list of full rides” or something of that sort. But most of the schools listed are in no way mediocre. The truth is you don’t just get full rides.

Good luck.

The OP just stated it that way to be concise. If you want political correctness in regards to lower ranked schools this is probably the wrong forum to be at.

I really think it is quite arrogant to call the kinds of school that he is looking for mediocre.

Well, let me be politically correct and refer to them as schools not listed as a top 50 school by the Princeton Review. I also was not saying that getting a full ride would in any way be easy. I started this thread to find state schools that have lower tuition than private schools, thus making a full ride more attainable. I can’t believe I have to justify my using the word “mediocre”.

if you go to michigan state which has a nice honors program, and get a 33 on your act, not only do you get offered a professorial assistantship that gives you a stipend for 2 years, you also get in state tuition, and then theres a test you take after accepted that may give you a chance to give you a full ride if you’re smart enough.

Lol! Sorry, did they offend you by pointing out your ridiculous put-down of schools you want to give you a lot of money? Poor guy.

Anyway, the reason most people are assuming you think it’s easy to get a full-ride is because you didn’t give any stats. Are you a national merit finalist? Are you a valedictorian? Perfect ACT or SAT? Honors programs typically don’t just give full rides, there are usually pretty set guidelines. Often that means doing very well on standardized tests or having a high GPA and then passing some sort of essay competition/other criteria. If you let us know what qualifications you have, we can point you in the direction of some appropriate colleges.

I didn’t want anyone to assume that I would not be able to get into a certain program so I did not post any stats. I was planning on taking suggestions from people and looking into those programs myself, then determining if I would be competitive or not. I know that it is a hassle to try and give people and idea if they are competitive to recieve anything. Wheter it be admission to a college, scholarships, or honor programs.

I’m sorry if it seemed like I was trying to put down lesser schools.

At Providence College if you get into the Honors program you get at least a half-tuition scholarship, most of the time its 3/4, and for some kids (2250+, 3.8+, decent EC’s) they give fulls.

Wow, too many of you guys were completely unhelpful and missed the point of his post completely.

…
i second the question… but in a completely politically-correct, unoffending, I-don’t-want-to-be-yelled-at way.
I know where they (erm… i’m guessing he?) is coming from- a safety school with a good financial aid/scholarship reputation.
i think that’s good to look for in a safety school.

LOL @ anything outside of the top 50 being ‘mediocre’ Elitists are too funny…

If you are a national merit finalist, this list gives schools that mostly give all but $6,000 full-ride scholarships. I know for a fact that U. Southern Miss gives a full ride.

And I see nothing wrong with calling some of these schools ‘mediocre’. A lot of them take students with pretty low stats, which gave me pause, but then they do have honor’s colleges, for the most part, to attract students like you.

I hope this helps!

juststoppingby gave a great list.
i can give you personal info about ASU (and Barrett, its honors college), if you want it, just message me.

juststoppingby, do you have a list of schools offering large merit awards to someone with 33 ACT, 3.9/4.0 average, lots of honors and AP classes getting A’s and B’s?

You could take a look at Berea College. It is an extremely selective school that gives every student free tuition if they meet the financial “requirements.” You even get a laptop for life and other cool bonuses. And it is in no way “mediocre!”

ivyleaguewannabe, i left out the crucial line . . .i want to major in business.
