Mediocre Stats....chances????

Ok my stats seriously suck. I am a serious slacker.....but I have taken the most challenging classes offered...at every school i've been to. also...i was in the IB program for my Junior year. Oh ya......im also from Afghanistan....affirmative action maybe??

Your SAT and GPA is defintetly a little low, but dont sweat it that much. It seems as if you are looking for a strength in your diversity of classes and your ECs, which are all pretty strong. Write some kick ass essays and you certaintly have a chance for admissions. Dont give up. Good luck.

damn, pretty similar to me except that my test scores and strength of sched. tougher (Math 402 @ SCC last yr, US History (formerly 17, 18) durin 8th grade)...
I say you have a good chance. The intangibles does make a factor, so the personal statement is your chance to really shine.

Solid ECs.

Did you have any short of grade trend, or pretty consistent?

hmmmm... im not sure about your affirmative action potential. U Penn, for example, considers middle easterners as white.

I'm not completely sure about this but if Afghanistan is considered Asia, then AA doesn't really work for you. With Pink's comment, the UCs consider Middle Easterners to be Caucasian (so that wouldn't help either). Also, I'm pretty sure the UCs banned AA a while ago, so race isn't a factor in the admissions review.

LA and Cal are competitive, but they aren't entirely stats driven- they look at the whole package. There are people who have perfect numbers and get rejected over people who have less than perfect numbers but great essays and stories. Good luck!

sorry, i dont think you will get in

Let's put it this way, 'since we're not admission officers, we don't know how much weight is given to certain factors. So just wait and find out.

ucla does not consider freshmen grades, what's your gpa weighted (capped at 8 sem) for soph and jun year? but your chances are not that great, but keep your hopes up. :]

Freshman grades don't count by the way. Only sophomore and junior years are considered for the UCs

california doesn't do affirmative action. sorry. good luck- your chances don't seem too hot, but with some good essays you might have a shot.
