Mediocre student, help?

I'm a Junior this year in HS, and I'm also dual-enrolling at a local community college and plan to earn an AA degree by the time I graduate (60 credits total). My GPA is not too low, but it's not impressive by any means--3.3-3.5 UW, 3.7-3.8 W. I plan on majoring in Linguistics or Psychology... but I'm still unsure, since I'm going to need extra credentials to get anywhere. My high school offers minimal APs, probably around ten, and I've chosen to only take AP courses in the areas I am strong in (2 so far). I do struggle with math and science, but I'm pretty good with writing and language.

Another drawback is how I have basically zero extracurriculars. We've had transportation issues, since my mom is the only one with the car and she goes to work, so I've never really been able to join any after-school clubs. We are on a tight budget so my own car is next to impossible right now. I know this is really going to hurt on the application, and since I'm dual-enrolling I may not be able to join clubs this year either. I do have some volunteer hours by aiding a teacher at a local middle school.

Will I be accepted at all to any school? x\ I plan on attending a state school for the rest of my undergrad (here in FL, or maybe out of state, like Texas, Indiana, New York, etc). I've been thinking that if I can try to get on the college newspaper or do some publications for the magazine, that can bump me up a bit. And there is National Honor Society too, and maybe Yearbook for next year.

OH, and I haven't taken the SAT or ACT yet. Will do this spring. c:

Thank you!

You can be accepted to a lot of universities. A 3.7-8 W GPA is above average at a lot of universities. As far as extracurriculars go, you still have an entire summer to get as much as you want. But with a 3.8 you will still get to attend a good amount of schools without strong EC’s.

Thanks! Also, I got a 156 on the PSAT last year… not too good. The math portion really put me behind  I feel bad for not being able to afford a private counselor or private tutor for anything.

Much will come down to what your family can afford. Look at OOS costs at the schools you’re interested in and don’t expect aid beyond Federal.

The more you can afford, the more choices you’ll have.

I think I MAY be eligible for a Bright Future’s scholarship… chances are, I’ll be in state. My community college has a direct transfer to UCF when you get an AA degree, but I’ve been exploring my options.
