Medium/Large Schools with Industrial/Product Design and Business

DS is a junior. 3.5UW/3.7W; SATs probably around 1200. He is a good student with some processing/language issues that he has worked hard to overcome through many years of tutoring/speech therapy, but definitely affects the GPA. Really good artist and while he would like to find a school with a strong product/industrial design program, he would also like to double major in Business potentially. For design, I’m guessing that he would do better in a more arts-focused than engineering-focused program. Does well in Math, but will only hit Pre-Calc as a senior.

Extra-curriculars are just ok- lots of tutoring made it a bit tough, but has 2 sports, will have lots of vol work over the summer, some ldshp, etc. Did a product design program at Georgia Tech last summer that he enjoyed.

He would like a (preferably West Coast but probably could be convinced to look elsewhere) school that feels big with football games, possibly frats, and a fun college town. Looking at U of Oregon and U of Colorado currently, but wondering if there are other schools w/good design and business programs that might fit the bill or that you would recommend for one or the other (maybe could do Econ if no business program, or take Art/Design classes if no Prod Design major).

U of Cincinnati but the design school is hard to get into.

Read your post and it sounds exactly like my DS only he would like East Coast. He’s looking into to Auburn and Appalachian State.

The University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, is worth a look. Big 10 school with sports and frats. The Carlson School of Management has the business classes and the College of Design offers product design which is available as a major or a minor. Definitely not the West Coast though!
