Medscape: Vitamin D a Viable Strategy for Dementia Prevention?

They do make chewable vitamin D supplements. I like Rainbow Light gummies. The ones I take are 1000iu each. I do feel better mentally on them. There has been a new study that said Vitamin D does not do anything for osteoporosis. There had been a theory that since vitamin D is necessary for calcium absorption that it would help with bone health, but the new study reads like not so much.

Too much vitamin D can contribute to kidney stones and cause heart problems. There are MANY vitamins and minerals you want to be careful with and not overdo. Iron is especially dangerous. Vitamin A is also dangerous. Vitamin C is water soluble so you just pee out any excess, but it’s really false info to say that “the great thing about most vitamins is that it is very difficult to take enough to cause harm.” That’s just not true and dangerous advice.

A good time to put out a reminder that it’s a good idea to run the idea of adding or dropping vitamins/supplements with your primary care doctor or coordinating specialist.
