I am not sure what my parents did or did not pay attention to back then; my guess just trying to pay the rent and buy food.
Yes, second hand smoke is bad. But hiding under a table is not a solution. We did have earthquake drills in school and hid under the table though.
At my adherence (mostly) to posted speed limits??? LOL.
Because a 7 year old knows this? They’re told to hide under their desks from earthquakes and atomic war, so hiding from cigarette smoke seems reasonable.
Not a long term solution, true. But at a table with multiple adults smoking after dinner, I found the air less smoky under the table. I knew nothing about carcinogens or asthma or anything like that-- I was just trying to escape the stinky smoke
