Meet the crew behind SMCAdmissions

Hello College Confidential,

With the start of a new year, and hopefully new people to connect with on CC, those of us who are behind the "SMCAdmissions" account thought we should introduce ourselves!

Overall, there will be 4 of us managing "SMCAdmissions" - Jeremy, Carrie, Conor, and me - Mallory! We will try and get to your questions as soon as we can, but if you are looking for an immediate answer the best way to contact us is by calling [Admissions at 1.800-SMC-8000.

So, let me tell you little bit about myself.
My name is Mallory Wood and I am a 2008 graduate of St. Mike's. After graduation I worked for the Office of Admission for 2 years and recently transitioned into the Marketing Department to manage the college's Web 2.0 (social media) presence. I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't encourage you to check out SMC on these other sites: St</a>.
We all look forward to helping you out this year. The others will be introducing themselves soon in below comments...

Best,

Hi, College Confidential!

My name is Carrie Pratt and I am an Admission Counselor at Saint Michael’s College. A Mallory mentioned, I am a member of the crew behind SMCAdmissions and I look forward to answering your questions! Here is a little more about me…

New York
Pennsylvania

Education:
Saint Michael’s College, Bachelor of Arts in English, 2009

Favorite Book:
The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

Favorite Movies:
The Sound of Music and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Favorite CD:
Glee, The Music and Michael Jackson’s HIStory

Favorite Quote:

– NY Times

What do you enjoy most about being an admission counselor?
Being an admission counselor gives me the opportunity to be a part of the whole admissions process, which is something that I really enjoy. From meeting with students and their families on the Saint Michael’s campus to reading thoughtful applications, it’s a pleasure to be a part of this process for a school that I love!

Best tip for students coming for a campus visit:
Spend as much time as you can here, getting a feel for the campus. Say hello to people, eat in the dining hall, ask lots of questions (and let your parents ask questions too!), meet a professor or two and get contact information for the people you meet – you’re bound to think of one more thing to ask on the way home – or six months from now!

Best tip for students applying to Saint Michael’s:
Be an advocate for yourself – ask the questions that you want answered, make the calls that need to be made and most importantly, make the best decision for YOU!

Testimonial:
My time at Saint Michael’s shaped me into the person I’m becoming – the open and welcoming community was the perfect fit for me. The focus on community service, academics, spiritual development and lifelong friendships made for a wonderful experience. I am so happy to be back on campus, recruiting future classes!

Please feel free to contact me via e-mail (cpratt@smcvt.edu), ask me a question on formspring (Carriesmc09), follow me on twitter, (@CarrieSMC09) or check out my blog. Admission Counselor
Saint Michael’s College

Hellooooooo College Confidential-landia!

My name is Jeremy Brown and I’ve all over the US, but spent the longest amount of time in Texas and Southern California (and believe it or not, after my 8th Vermont winter, I still love it!).

Although not as new as Carrie, I’m new (as of Feb '10) to the Saint Michael’s College Admissions team and absolutely love it here at St. Mike’s! I cover the Boston/Metrowest/North Shore areas in MA and the entire state of Maine. I also work with international students studying here in the US, primarly at boarding schools. You can get to know a bit more about me on our website[/url”>http://www.smcvt.edu/admission/mycounselor/jeremy.asp]website!

I’m going to piggy back on what Mallory posted-- definitely follow St. Mike’s through Twitter[/url”>http://twitter.com/SMCAdmissions]Twitter, Facebook , and YouTube[/url”>http://www.youtube.com/user/saintmichaels]YouTube to get a better feel of the college. You can also follow me on Twitter @Jer3my[/url”>http://twitter.com/Jer3my]@Jer3my if you’d like!

How have people reacted to the " I like St. Mike’s " campaign. Personally speaking, I don’t like it. It’s to cutesy, in my opinion. I don’t know of any student who would put that sticker on their car. The message is not consistent with the effort of Saint Michael’s College to project itself as a Catholic college that one of the top 100 liberal arts colleges in the country. My advice to your marketing people is to drop it. Thanks for the chance to comment.
