Meeting application requirements

Many universities require two years of foreign language. I plan on taking two years of French during junior and senior year. I am wondering if colleges will know that I am meeting that foreign language requirement. Will they see my senior year schedule?

Would have been better if you hadn’t waited until your Junior year, but shouldn’t be a deal-killer provided you’ve been loading up on AP/IB and Honors classes.

Your acceptance will be based on grades through your junior year (always conditional), but most also have you submit your senior schedule…so yes they will know.

Thanks. I did take Spanish but one year was in 8th grade so I’m not so sure that it will count.

It is the highest level you achieved that counts too. So if you are going to do Spanish II and then III that is stronger. But it may be tough with that gap. If you aren’t a rising Jr, I suggest you start earlier. 2 years is really the bare minimum and it seems sketchy to start so late. But yes, you report your Sr year schedule and then you have to complete that requirement and hopefully nothing gets in your way.

^ I agree.
Also, your senior schedule should be showed either on your transcript or application. They would certainly see it as in progress. They will include that in the course requirement check as well as course rigor assessment. Remember, if you make any chance in senior schedule afterward, you need to contact the admission office to report the change or you may get into trouble.

Thanks. I am also wondering if the two years of foreign language in high school needs to be taken in two consecutive years. I took Spanish I in eighth grade and Spanish II in ninth grade. I did not take Spanish III sophomore year, a decision that I regret. Would it be better to just take Spanish III Junior year or take two consecutive years of French junior and senior year?

@Bh1397‌ spanish III

They will ask for your senior schedule as part of the application, so yes, they will see that you’re taking Spanish. They will also ask for your midterm grades, and will again see that you’re taking Spanish.

My S did the same and it was not an issue with any of the schools he applied to. Colleges will see your senior year schedule as part of your application so no worries. They will also get your mid-year senior year grades.

Thanks! I was just worried that the two years that I take Spanish would have to be consecutive.

It is better to have Spanish in consecutive year just for learning the language. It is not a matter for the admission. So if you have a gap year in between, you may need some extra effort to catch up.
