Hey guys so this question is more for current students or alumni. I've been here for about a month and meeting people has been hard. I thought that because this university was so full of people, and I'm actually a very social outgoing person, that I'd meet people a lot easier but that isn't the case. I checked out the organizations, I can't seem to find one I like and I looked through every category. I know my roommate and suitemate of course and I get along greatly with my roommate but we're both in the same situation. Maybe it's because we entered in Spring and people already made their friends in the Fall. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying my time here, I like the university but I can't really enjoy it to it's full extent if I only know one or two people. I just wanted to get advice from current or former students.

P.S. I don't wanna scare new students away, the university is great! I'm sure i'm just doing something wrong and not approaching people the right way or something. Don't be scared UCF is cool :D

I’m finding it hard to meet people here too. I also came to main campus in the spring and my roommates are the only people I really hang out with (not that much though, and honestly if we weren’t living together I’d probably never consider them as potential friends, also they get “exclusive” when their actual friends are around), so I know what you mean. It could be a fun school…but it’s not fun to do everything alone in a new town.

You’re not having trouble meeting new people because you weren’t here for the fall semester. Most people here are 1: in state, and 2: were friends before they came here, from high school. I gather that they don’t feel the need to make new ones.

It’s been a month since you wrote this anyway so hopefully you’ve met more people:)

I haven’t I joined a club hopefully that will help but I don’t know. You’re completely right, it is definitely difficult to meet people when they already know each other. Well, feel free to message me through here, I’m friendly I promise I’m in the exact same situation as you, completely new town (for me, state) and the only ones I know are the roommates and just like you, it’s “exclusive” when they’re together. So do feel free to message me and I’ll reply At least you can say you know one more person now haha :)

What classes are you taking this semester? On the off chance we might have the same class, I’d at least want to say hi. But it’d probably have to be a huge coincidence since I’m guessing the only class we might both be in is Biology I, unless you’re a math or economics major.

Hey @PWGuerrilla Thank you that’s so nice Probably not though, who knows! I’m taking Intermediate Algebra (I know, I know I’m bad at math), General Anthropology, Human Species and Humanistic Traditions II

Sorry for taking so long to reply, way too much hw… I haven’t made any friends at this point either. Being from out of state definitely makes things harder. I know it took me a while to get used to the roads and stuff (tolls: the tourist money pit). Do you like Orlando (or Florida) so far?

I like the area yes I just haven’t been able to fully enjoy it. I’m sure once I have a couple of friends I’ll enjoy all Orlando has to offer. There’s always something to do somewhere in Orlando.

Purplestuff, there’s definitely a way around those toll roads! I haven’t paid a single dime for those roads by avoiding them with my GPS, haha.

As far as making friends go, I am guilty of not putting in the effort to make friends and just hanging out with the few people that I usually hang out with. The more the merrier though :D

And yes, Orlando is quite fun. I’ve been to Universal 3 times since last fall and city walk a few times here and there. (Gotta put the discount at the TicketMaster to good use!) Been to this one karaoke bar a few times. Never been to the clubs though, and don’t really plan on it, hahaa. We’re really just spontaneous, and sometimes we’d drive aimlessly around looking for things to do.

I don’t know about you guys, but we could exchange numbers or something. I do this with people from the online classes that I take, so why not random people from the school? Haha.

Eiram, you’re right, there’s a lot to do here (though more fun to do with friends). The Waterford shopping plaza was really crowded Friday night and I was thinking how fun it would be to be doing something there…aside from driving there alone just to use the atm lol.

Mizzxvii, lol yeah I really need to get a GPS. Google maps will put you on every road that costs money. Did you go to the Harry Potter park at Universal? City Walk is fun, was the karaoke bar you guys went to there (Rising Star)? I’m not into the club scene either (never been to one:/).

If you guys have a facebook page I can pm you the link if you want, and we could friend each other. (I don’t have a problem with exchanging numbers though…just like to see who I’m talking to, if that makes any sense:))

Hey, I’ve been having the same problem with not meeting people. And I’ve been here almost 2 years! It’s definitely hard when you’re not from the area or transfer in after everyone’s already formed their cliques. It would be great to find some people to enjoy Orlando with.

The things you’re all talking about seem pretty cool (karaoke bar, HP park at Universal, that ATM in Waterford…). I’m not much for the club scenes either, so if any of you want to PM me and exchange numbers that could be cool.

For fear of being one of the only posts on this page without some kind of smiley… :D

purple, Yea! I love the Harry Potter ride, although the line for that ride will forever be long. And I don’t really remember the name of the karaoke bar that we usually go to, but it’s owned by Korean people (or Korean people just work there idk) It’s like 20-30 mins from UCF… is Rising Star any closer? And yea, I’m not really into the whole clubbing scene. I don’t feel the need to go out and get drunk to have fun.

I do go to the Waterford plaza a lot. Mainly to see movies but sometimes to shop as well. It’s pretty nice there. And have you guys tried the frozen yogurt places? I love them!

Do you guys have AIM or something? Maybe it’s more appropriate haha

I’m with SpiffyGuy…I’m transferring to UCF in May and I won’t know anybody! If you have facebook add me -----> [Welcome to Facebook - Log In, Sign Up or Learn More](<a href=“Facebook - log in or sign up”>Facebook - log in or sign up)

Mizzxvi, the Rising Star is in Universal’s City Walk area. Probably not the same place but closer in distance to the Korean one. The Waterford plaza is really nice, would be nicer if the people shopping knew how to drive in a parking lot though, lol. I haven’t been to any frozen yogurt places yet but I heard there’s one around here that’s really good (I think it’s across the street from campus?).

No AIM, but I’ve got GoogleTalk…also if everyone has Knights-mail we can all talk to each other that way since it has a “messenger” feature.

Hey all I’m so sorry I took so long haha and I’m the one who started this /facepalm. I was flooded with tests and midterms and whatnot. And now I’m back in my lovely home for spring break. I will be more than happy to exchange facebooks and whatnot. I’ll send you all my name to find me, especially look under education : UCF and it should get easier. I will give you the details on a PM. You all sound very nice Mizzxvii you sound sort of like me and my friends back at home Again, I’ll be more than happy to meet you all. I will be sending you PM’s so check them out. I don’t check collegeconfidential as much as I do facebook (which is every 2 seconds) Thank you all for your sweet replies!!

Well now I feel left out I’ll be coming in the fall and the people that I do know will be going there as well, I don’t wanna have anything to do with them so I’m kinda in the same position… Lol

i know there is a FB page with all incoming freshman that you can join and talk to other freshman. i’m on it; it’s good to be meeting ppl. i’m coming in the fall as well. and i DON’T want to talk to anyone from my high school lol.
