It is supposed to be just informational but because it's the department head I know that s/he will be looking at me with a slightly evaluative eye and can probably recommend me for admissions if they like me...

I wonder if I should try to slip in reasons why I think I am qualified, or just ask routine questions about the program, or what? I am not really "prepared" for this meeting yet... I am going primarily to show that I am very serious about this particular school being my very first choice. I could really use some help with this because I want it to go well... what should I say/do/ask? Thank you.

I do not have one to date but I can make one if needed. I've been generating questions but I still have more to do, I think. Does anyone else think that it is appropriate to give a resume? Personally, I was tending to think against that kind of thing but I want to make sure s/he remembers who I am and that I am very interested... any other ways to do this?

I don't think a resume is necessary. Make sure you know the info that is easily accessible on the college web site, and that your questions are on a higher level. (such as the likelihood of doing x type of research as an undergrad or the availability of coursework in a multidisciplinary or related field). I think it would be nice if you sent a followup thank you note in a few days. If you think of relevant questions later in the fall, you can email and keep the relationship going. good luck!

thank you calgal, the thank you note and follow-up emails are good ideas. I am trying to come up with some good questions that pertain to me and are not embarrassingly obvious!
