Any input is appreciated. I would like to know how I might stack up with other applications.

Ugh. Firefox crashed and destroyed my very-nearly-finished reply to you. I'm sorry! The gist of it was this...

Scripps looks like a great academic match for you. The school meets 100% of need, but in case it's a concern, I don't think merit aid would be likely (even so, applying by the scholarship deadline would be worthwhile). I knew of two bio/dance students and two French/dance students while I was at the school (that may not sound like many, but it's a small place!)...you'd be well-supported in terms of dual/double majoring, pursuing multiple interests, dancing for pleasure, etc. Scripps loves 'interdisciplinality' :)

I don't know anything about Muhlenberg, but I checked out its website out of interest. It looks like the school will be a pretty safe bet for you (a safe match at the very least...I don't feel that I know it well enough to really call it a safety, though it may well be one). You're above the 75th percentiles and the website suggests that you'll have a good shot at merit aid. Make sure to note any special deadlines/requirements, and definitely look into auditioning for the Talent Grant...right up your alley! FMI: http://www.muhlenberg.edu/finaid/merit.html

Looking at numbers alone, your stats put you near Vassar's 50% mark. Predictions are always a little tough with LAC's, largely because "fit" plays such a role, as do tons of "soft factors" that we don't get to see here (essays, recs, interviews, interest, etc). I assume that you're a junior. Are you planning to retake the SAT, or try the ACT? From what I know of the schools on your list (very little in a few cases), everything looks pretty reasonable. I'd even say that with nearly a year ahead of you, you could reach a little higher if you'd like to (in your search, if not your final applications).

Off the top of my head, knowing that you're still in the early-ish stages of forming your list, I'd also suggest checking out Wellesley, Barnard, and Pomona. Maaaybe Carleton, although I don't know if their dance department is what you're looking for. You might not really be interested in all of these (Wellesley might be 'too much' of a women's college for you--which I only say knowing that you're already hesitant about a single-sex school--Barnard might be too urban, and Pomona might be a bit too reachy), but I think they all make some sense relative to what you're looking for, and would help you continue to get a feel for what's out there.

Take advantage of living in the northeast by visiting different types of schools and making sure you know what you're looking for. Knowing how new this list is for you, I'm torn between congratulating you on already having such a handle on your preferences vs. warning you not to limit yourself too early in the search. That aside, you're definitely on a good track. Best of luck :)

(Okay, so that was more than the gist. That was just it.)

Yeah this is a preliminary chances thread. None of this is definite yet, but thank you student. =]

My d, with stats lower than yours, was offered significant merit aid at Muhlenberg. If you decide to apply there, don't forget to audition for a talent scholarship. You can get it even if you decide not to major in dance; you just have to take a few classes to keep it.

You have a good chance at Skidmore as well. And Vassar is also a good shot, although not really a "match" for anyone, given its low acceptance rate.

Good luck!

thanks chedva. does your daughter attend Muhlenberg now?
