I was accepted to the Meisner studio, and I was wondering if anyone could provide me with information that is not listed on the website. How does it compare to the other studios? If the studio is expanding, do they still plan to create a “company” that trains together for two years? Why is it the only exclusive primary training studio (compared to the other four year studios)? Any other information is welcome and I would be happy to hear it. Thank you!

I was also accepted into Meisner this year. I have been looking for information and have had very little luck. I think it could be because there are so few Meisner students. Also, what do you mean it is expanding? I was unaware of that. By how much is it expanding?

I’ve read in more than one post on CC that Meisner will be accepted about twice as many students as usual due to the introduction of the New Studio for Acting. I truly hope this isn’t the case because really attracted to the idea of being in such a small group of students and forming a company for two years. Can anyone comfirm if this actually happening?

I spoke with the director of the program at the accepted students day today. They are hoping to add several more sections with about 12 students in a section with a total of 48 students next year. They have recruited new faculty because of this. When I asked why they wanted to expand Vicky said that they have been very successful and want to offer the tarining to more students. They will also be moving into the New Studio next fall so it will not be off campus.

Hello, my son was not able to make the admitted students event this weekend – he is understudying at one of our city’s theaters. He was selected for Meisner and we’d love to hear what others found out at this weekend’s event. Thanks Mollysmom for you info!

Please pm me and I will give you my daughter’s name and info. I believe there is already a Meisner group on fb! I really liked Vicky Hart, the director of the program. She tried to actually explain things without sounding cliche and seemed very open to questions. She also mentioned something about a parent’s meeting in the future (but this is probably for kids who have accepted) but I am not exactly sure. My d has a lot of friends at various studios at NYU so she would be a good person for your s or d to contact. Good luck and I hope to be meeting you at some point in the future. She has not decided 100% yet but is strongly leaning towards NYU.

I was just wondering if anyone has any more or information or contacts about the Meisner studio…

Training of Actors in America by Arthur Bartow has a chapter by Vicky Hart, Director ofthe Meisner studio, which describes the 1st and 2nd year curriculum. Also has chapters on Adler and Mamet.

i was in meisner! what you wana know? it’s gona be different this year so i can’t tell you exactly what it’ll be like, but take comfort in the fact that Vicki Hart is amazing and very brilliant at what she does so you’re in great hands. there will be 3 sections instead of one, but i’m sure it will still be the most intensely personal experience you’ll get at nyu. meisner is deeply invested in its students. from what i’ve heard, you’ll have other teachers too (who vicki chose) but everyone will get to study with vicki and nate, the core teachers too. it’s really brilliant and demanding training, you’re in for a treat and a wild ride!

the reason it’s a primary studio only is just that that’s the length of the training, but i think with the expansion they’re adding a third year, where i believe you’ll solidify the work, form a company, and put on a play. we all wished we had a third year at the end of ours, so it’s great that you’ll get that! i’m not sure if it’s automatic or by audition, but there are also wonderful opportunities to study in other advanced studios. meisner is a very particular kind of training and it’s good to mix it up with other stuff.

and yeah, i couldn’t find anything about it before i went because it’s such a small studio that we’re a rare bunch! but no worries, all will be revealed to you guys soon.

Accepted to Meisner as well!
I can’t wait to see all you guys there
