We can’t fit a king up our L shaped staircase and bedroom door without bending and ruining the mattress a little. We loved the memory foam as that didn’t happen. I think the next purchase, we might try 2 XL twins…I like mine more firm, and just push together and put a memory foam topper for a few hundred that can be replaced evrery so often.
Has anyone done that? I’m very hesitant about spending $$$$ for a bed now.
My aunt and uncle bought a sleep number bed because they couldn’t get a traditional King up their steps. I’m not sure of the particulars but they said they ship it to you in pieces and then it’s assembled. So I might look into that option also
If you decide to go the two twin beds route, secure the mattresses together. Otherwise, they will drift apart creating that uncomfortable crevasse in the middle of the bed. Discovered that in Europe where a “king” bed could mean that kind of setup. Mr. solved the issue by tying the legs of the platforms together with one of my fabric belts.
Ok, I just spent 3,000 for a bed. The tempurpedic supreme breeze, queen size, to be exact. I was torn between that and a Stearns and Foster high end “regular” bed. The “no discount” price of the bed we got, including box spring, is supposed to be $3999.99. So, I seem to have gotten a great deal, bc this company isn’t going to carry that model any longer. It is brand new, not a floor model.
Anyone have any knowledge of this bed? I can cancel before next Saturday, no problem. After that, I lose $150, mostly for re pickup and delivery of new bed, if I need to send it back and get a new bed.
Any helpful advice is appreciated.
It’s the most, by far, we’ve spent on a bed, but darn it seems comfy, and many people seem to be leaning towards this kind of bed.
$150 is a small price to pay for a bed that you find comfortable in the store in the event that you
do not at home. We have had tempurpedic type beds for 13 years–everyone in the family.
Love the fact that you do not feeling your partner roll over at all.
Does sleep warm for me but still have been happy.
I have relatively little body fat, and I love that the fact that the Tempur bed is like a cozy nest when I dive into it. Plus, I do not fall asleep immediately, so my tossing and turning does not wake up Mr. who zonks out as soon as we turn out the lights.
We recently got a King size tuft and needle bed for under $400 and really like it. It is an expanding foam bed we use over a box springs. Our prior bed was a posturpedic. The tuft and needle comes in a box the size of a big 6 year old and is delivered to the house. Once exposed to air it will not deflate. The only caveat it that it took a few weeks for us to get used to what sitting on the side of the bed is like. A regular mattress has reinforcement/stitching along the edges to give it “body” that this does not have.
We got an expensive Tempurpedic bed a few years ago and I LOVE it! On our old bed, every time I had to turn oer in the night I would wake up, because I worried that I was bothering DH. Now I never wake up. I sleep so much more soundly. I would highly recommend the bed.
DH and I just spent half a day mattress shopping. Not my idea of fun. The Mattress Fitm/Sleepys store seems pretty hard sell but they do make it easy to try so many types etc. Still, it felt like their prices reflected a lot of bells and whistles and marketing and commission.
Also went to a small furniture store that had a limited selection and saw cheaper models that seemed fine. Sleepys first showed us a king set for $5000 and then added on doe adjustable split base that jacked it up to $12,000!! Ummmm NO. But we left there feeling we needed to spend $2-3000 for a decent mattress. Then saw a much cheaper one at the small store
We’ve had our sleep number bed (on an adjustable base) for almost a year now and still love it. I did have to add a mattress pad because I just need a little more cushion with my sore joints. Mr R however has no such problem and sleeps like a log on his side of the bed.
I love our tempurpedic bed because it doesn’t move when one person rolls over. I had to try a couple of different pillows to make it completely comfortable to me, but what I like is that my hip sinks in and the rest of the bed doesn’t really sag. I sleep on my side. DH sleeps on his back most of the night. We’ve had it about 4 years and it still seems the same. It kind of softens up as you lie there but it doesn’t get too soft an saggy. I have never felt that it is too hot, even though I like things cold…maybe because our house is cold, the mattress doesn’t get hot?
Although I love our tempurpedic at home, I also like the Westin beds when I am travelling. I do notice that different beds require differerent pillows and there is some trial and error required there!
The next bed we get will be a Temperpedic. I just keep reading how they hold up years later. Our $2,300 Serta gel infused memory foam started giving way at 8 months, and now after 3 years, it sags and doesnt offer much support. It’s like we are in a hole. I’m so mad. Iv’e since read several reviews of others with the same problem. When I nudge over to the edge or middle, I’m literally “up” out of the hole.
But, I have to say when it was new, it was incredible. Our joints stopped aching and we both slept so soundly. I’ve often worried about getting hot in a traditional memory foam.
@conmama the small independent store told us that people complain the foam beds break down rapidly and they sell a lot of innerspring beds to people wanting to replace them. And the sales person is a friend of mine so I know she is telling me the real scoop.
It is just so frustrating to read people having totally opposite reactions to the same mattress. I agree that some things are just personal preference, but durability and value should be absolutes.
Our primary concern is no “transfer” - when i roll over, DH should not feel it, or should feel very little. Right now it’s very distracting when one of us turns over, the other is jostled.
Our tempurpedic is 14 years old…and like new really. I wonder if the weight and size of the users has an impact on the longevity of these. DH weighs about 140 and I weigh about 128. I’m guessing these would break down more quickly if heavier people were using them.
@surfcity the best thing about this mattress…when I move…DH’s side of the mattress doesn’t move at all.
