H has always worn Brooks Brothers dress shirts but hasn’t been very happy with last few we purchased. The fit and quality seem off. Any recommendations for decent quality men’s shirts? Thanks!
Hugo Boss makes great dress shirts. My husband is also very happy with his Nordstrom house brand shirts and The Rack shirts, too.
My husband has really liked the Land’s End dress shirts he has purchased. He normally wears a sport shirt, no tie to work and they have lots of options and fits. He likes the performance ones and says they compare favorably to his performance Peter Millar ones at a third the price. Plus they are always on sale!
Is he athletically built? That can be harder to fit when athletic-fit dress shirts do not seem to be as common these days.
Recently bought one of my sons a new suit,shirt/tie/belt, etc. ( birthday gift) as he has a couple of weddings to attend - suit is Hugo Boss and shirt is Nordstrom brand, purchased this during anniversary sale this summer. My H buys his own clothes but I think he likes Land’s End??
another vote for Lands End. Also if there is an outlet mall near you I’ve found some nice shirts at the Polo store.
The shirttails are actually shorter on some of the shirts and don’t stay tucked in. Same size and style, some fit, some don’t.
Thanks everyone. This gives me some direction.
My H loves Charles Tyrwhitt. They always are having sales and there re way more size and cut options than typical brands. Very nice quality too.
According to my DH, anything a man could ever want/need can be purchased from The M Den, including dress shirts:
If it doesn’t have an “M” on it, it isn’t dressy.
Does he like 100% cotton? Stretch fabrics?
For super-stretchy athletic fit dress shirts I love mizzen & main.
For pure cotton with a more formal look and a bit more room around the waist, I like Bugatchi.
Above are both more fashion-forward and not conservative, however.
Another vote for Nordstrom brand shirts. Durable and well-priced.
Your H isn’t wrong. Quality went down even before Covid. Avoid the outlets. I had better luck at the actual stores. He might need to change the BB cut. Madison is their relaxed fit line.
Tyrwhitt is ok but I still preferred BB. Nordstrom isn’t bad.
I had a coworker who used an online custom tailor. He was happy. Looked good as far as I could tell.
Nordstrom rack non iron trim fit dress shirt. It has buttons on the collar which H wanted. We found this on line and it traveled very well to D’s wedding. Hard to believe it was $25 as we were looking at $100 ones. But this worked out very well. H is trim but not super thin.
Honestly, Costco. Their Kirkland men’s traditional no-iron shirts are literally a steal at the price.
Is your husband a slim cut or a regular cut? My husband is a slim European cut and he says the shirts have gotten wider and wider and wider. The Hugo Boss and Nordstom brand slims fit him…but the others just don’t anymore. And he finds it annoying. Thank goodness he does not need a lot of dress shirts anymore!
L.L. Bean-husband likes their clothing because he is very tall and they have tall sizes. Charles Tyrrwhitt is good. Has had Brooks Brothers shirts in the past but not recently.
Yes, after the bankruptcy, the name fell into new hands and the quality has declined, though prior changes in ownership had already degraded a lot of what made the old BB great (but I digress).
Many of the “trad” stores like the old BB have gone away, leaving the Andover Shop and J. Press as holdouts. I have also had luck with Proper Cloth, which lets you build a shirt online using custom measurements. You can send back your first shirt for a refund if your initial attempt needs further adjustments, but once you save a profile, you can use it for future purchases.
He usually wears the Regent slim fit in BB. I just ordered from Land’s End and will swing by Nordstrom Rack later this week. The nearest Nordstrom is 90 minutes away so we’ll try these first. He also likes a button down collar which narrows the options further.
L.L. Bean has button down shirts and are good quality, with very good reviews.
