Men, Women & Children of Dartmouth: READ THIS

Thanks for the link BalletGirl. I really enjoyed it!

" So where did the OP go? He threw some chum in the water and then disappeared. Certainly true to his name."

Try not to miss me so much -> busy, busy.

I’ve been impressed with both your perspectives and your ability to communicate them. I think you, madam, are quite on point.

Alas … I probably shouldn’t, but …

Bait

Why this? Why now? So much has transpired in the last three years, to harken back to this article is absurd.

ohmadre

Mathias is not and never has been on the board

the lawsuit was shortcircuited, not lost - it would have been won had it ever gone to decision - any Damage done to Dartmouth was self-inflicted - except for the wrongheadedness of Haldeman and Wright, the lawsuit never would have existed

Mathais is the president of the Alumni Association. His “dialogue” with the board has been no more fruitful than his predecessors - even after dropping their lawsuit.

BalletGirl

Who won out???

Not Wright - he got dumped. Not the alumni. Not the undergraduates.

Who won out - Haldeman. whooppee for him

And if you are going to misstate Rogers view, don’t bother. His position is that Dartmouth should provide the best undergraduate education in the world - period.

To go into everyone that Haldeman alienated including long time big money donors in his power play would take forever. The Kim hire bought some time. But unless the board composition is redressed, that open wound is one that will fester forever - or at least until all the current alumni die.

“I agree that that Princeton model is expensive, but money for a school like Dartmouth, even in this environment, is not the scarcest resource. Vision is. I think President Kim will layout a compelling vision for Dartmouth and the money will follow. While my comments about Rogers (above) were satircal and hyperbolic, I don’t think they are far off the mark. Dartmouth (and other schools) must get off this fetish of building brick and mortar and get on with putting its resources against its most valuable resources, its faculty.”

So you really agree with Rogers conceptually  - but for some reason claim that to get that excellence, Rogers should have just dumped a lot of money in laps of folks with a different vision, rather than run for the board.

Corbett

As always, spot on :)
