As a high school senior looking forward to studying engineering, I am wondering what kinds of work can a Mechanical Engineer get? I hear some majors like Electrical Engineering can get jobs that CS and CE majors would get.

So is it really just engines, machines, and other mechanical devices? Or can a degree open up many more doors in other fields?

A degree in ME is great because it is one of the broadest enigneering majors...there is a lot of overlap with other areas.

The field is a lot more broad than you have listed. Basically, as with anyother major, you learn a set of skills, and then go out and find an employer who is looking for those skills. For example, ME's learn a lot about engineering desing. That's a skill. So you can apply what you know to a company's problems, say in developing parts for a "machine," such as a crusher or something.

I've known MechEs who ended up in biomedical device design, aerospace, optical engineering, toy design, robotics, and software (probably other stuff too, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head).
