Meningitis Vaccine?

Should I get it? Did most of you get it? It was really expensive so I chose not to get it before coming to Cornell. However, it seems almost EVERYONE has gotten the vaccine. I'm currently on the fourth day of a horrible flu, and I realize that my immune system is not impervious.

Thoughts?

its not required by cornell? get it anyway

it is required by cornell unless you object…

was not required by Cornell. Also did find that odd. Our High School was highly recommending it as well as my pediatrician so all 3 of my kids got it a few years ago. It is good for 10 years so I figured it should take them through college. Oldest just started as a Freshman at Cornell (logged in as 2nd son now). Do you not have health insurance? I think if you could swing it I would try to get it. The good thing is if most kids have gotten it then hopefully there will not be an outbreak but I would not count on that. Also does anyone know if they give out flu shots? We waived the health insurance but found a close doctor that takes our insurance but for some reason I think they give the flu shots out free? Told my son if they do to get it otherwise I might wait for him to come home October (Fall Break) and get it. Also not sure if most guys know this but they have approved the HPV vaccine for boys. My pediatrician was also adamant about this vaccine. Don’t want to start a vaccine controversy (trust me I have opinions but I still feel the good out way the bad) It is a 3 shot regimen and I did have all 3 of my kids (2 boys and 1 girl) get the first dose. Oldest will need to get 2nd dose Oct and third in Dec. Just an FYI not an endorsement by any means (don’t want to start any debates just feel that knowledge is a good thing regardless of opinion)

Yes, but I’m not sure when it’s going to be. If I remembered correctly, it started a week before fall break last year.

They are FREE for students! :)

I stand corrected on the meningitis… Also thanks memphismom for the link on the flu shot. I am going to send that to my son.

Memphis-

Thanks for the link about flu shots. I sent it to my kid. I hope this is widely publicized at Cornell & will help avoid serious outbreaks of flu.

trust me, its widely publicized.

Every time a flu shot was offered, there were 2-4 hour lines during mid-day.
