After reading this post, I called my h.s. senior D’s doctor to check if she had it. Yes, in 2006. Since she won’t be a college freshman until 2010, I wonder if she should have it again. When I mentioned this to the nurse, she said the vaccine was good for life. I wonder if that’s accurate. I’ll read on here to see if that issue is addressed.

I just found this regarding state requirements:

[Meningococcal Vaccine State Requirements](<a href=“Meningococcal Meningitis (MenACWY) Vaccine | MenQuadfi® (Meningococcal [Groups A, C, Y, W] Conjugate Vaccine)”>Meningococcal Meningitis (MenACWY) Vaccine | MenQuadfi® (Meningococcal [Groups A, C, Y, W] Conjugate Vaccine))

I also checked on my D’s immunization record and she’s had the conjugated type
(MCV4) which is Menactra. Good!

I just got an email from umich telling me that the H1N1 vaccine would be available free of charge to me once they get it, if your children could get it for free would you have them do so or skip it?

I worry about getting any sort of flu as I have severe asthma and the two tend to make each other worse, but I’m not sure if H1N1 is scary enough that I should go for it, or how I would know if the vaccine is safe.

I’d have my kid get it, even if I had to pay for it. I had the Hong Kong Flu in 1968 and it was a most miserable week! I wouldn’t wish anything like that on anyone!

My mom is VERY wary of newer vaccines, which is her objection to gardasil and I think menactra even though I don’t even know how new the latter is. But even she wasn’t sure what to tell me about this one. I am thinking I need to give my asthma specialist a call before he retires, but given that people seem fairly divided over whether swine flu is anything to worry about I thought it might be a good question to ask the parents. It’s something you all should probably consider and let your position be known to your children, as they may end up having the same opportunity as me and may also be unsure.

mine got it
