How can I increase interest from Harvard, Yale, and Princeton? I know these are very strong lightweight teams that want sub 6:40 ergs. I PRd on my 2k recently and now have a sub 6:45 2k and good grades/scores: SAT I: 2300+, SAT II’s: 770+, straight A’s. I’m a natural lightweight.

This past year and this summer I have been contacting the IVY coaches and the programs that I am interested in rowing for. Is it possible if I did not get phone calls from certain schools yet that they could still offer official visits and be interested now that I have a lower 2k and still solid grades?

Advice on how to express serious interest on my part to make clear to the coaches that I am interested in their programs?

Coaches are in control of this process. The best that you can do is update with your new PR, any new test scores and your senior class schedule. Your academics are fine, your erg score is just a little slower than the top recruits that the coaches are focused on right now. You will just have to wait and see how things shake down as the weeks go on. Seriously consider any offers for OVs at other schools, don’t make the mistake of holding out for a better offer, there are only so many spots to go around. And if you eventually get offered an OV at H, Y, or P, you can take it as an unofficial (pay your own way). Good luck!

Cautionary tale. Getting in on rowing is great. Make sure in your heart of hearts that you can handle the academics.

I know of one fellow who attended Princeton for rowing but he had a hard time academically. He finally graduated after dropping out twice. He is now having a hard time getting into graduate school because of his low grades. Be honest with yourself.
