Men's Track and Cross Country

How good would you have to be in middle to long distance track to get recruited? What 800 time, 1600 time or 3200 time?

The following link is Harvard's Outdoor Performance List from 2005:

Recruiting season is fast approaching, so I would suggest filling out recruiting forms PRONTO. You can do that onlne at gocrimson.com.

I'll be running xc/track for Harvard next year (although I'm a girl), but I'd be happy to talk to you about it if you like.

What are your times? How did it affect your acceptance?

Your state meet times in 2004 were 2:16, 5:08, and 11:16. How much did you run a week junior and senior year?

Uhm, well...I went to track practice...;-)

Did you run outside of practice?

Well, yeah, if you want to succeed in a sport, your goals have to be bigger than those of the average member of your high school team. I guess, specifically, yes, junior year I ran three mornings a week (easy distance runs) in addition to afternoon workouts. Plus weekends. But training really depends on the individual. What works for me may not work for the next person.

p.s. The times I ran at State in 2004 weren't all PRs.

i run a 4:38/10:12 16/32 and I was told that I would have to take a good amount of time off of each one to even be considered.

I don't know if you need to take a significant amount of time off of each one. My brother ran a 4:31 16 in HS and ended up running XC, indoor, and outdoor for Harvard. He wasn't actively recruited, but he was able to compete in college with those HS times.

Keynes1105 what were you told you had to get your times down to?

for the 2mile, they told me like sub 930

I'm sorry, but I don't believe that, Keynes. Much stronger track schools recruit guys who aren't sub9:30, and to be honest, Harvard really can't be that picky when it comes to track stats. Perhaps you misunderstood, or the person you talked to was referring to what it would take to be part of the scoring team for xc.

Sunglasses what times do you think are good enough for boys 8/16/32?

regardless, i wasn't going to be recruited with my times
