<p>Marshall Tabbed Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week</p>

<p>CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Navy men's track & field junior Dante Marshall (Hermitage, Pa.) has been named the Patriot League Field Athlete of the Week for his performances in the long and triple jumps this past weekend, it was announced on Tuesday morning.</p>

<p>Tuesday's recognition from the league is the first for Marshall this season and the fourth time he has earned Patriot League weekly honors during his career. He has been selected the league's field athlete of the week at least once during each of his first-three seasons in Annapolis.</p>

<p>Marshall won the triple jump for the third time in as many meets this season, posting a season-best and IC4A-qulaifying mark of 48'0" (14.63 meters) against American, Penn and VCU on Saturday in Annapolis. The junior won the event by nearly two and a half feet and surpassed his previous season-best effort by more than a foot.</p>

<p>Earlier in the day, the product of Hermitage, Pa., placed third in the long jump with a career-best distance of 22'10-1/2" (6.97 meters). His effort was less than three inches off the IC4A standard and five inches away from the first-place mark.</p>

<p>Navy defeated American, Penn and VCU with a team score of 201 points last weekend to improve its record to 3-1 on the year. The Midshipmen return to action this Saturday when they host James Madison, Mount St. Mary's and William & Mary for their final indoor home meet of the season.</p>

<p>ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men’s track & field team will host James Madison and Mount St. Mary’s in its final indoor home meet of the season on Saturday in Halsey Field House, starting at 11 a.m.</p>

<p>The Midshipmen are coming off victories against American, Penn and VCU in Annapolis last Saturday. Navy won eight events and posted seven IC4A-qualifying mark to accumulate 201 points. For the year, the Mids have qualified for the IC4A Championship in nine events.</p>

<p>Junior Dante Marshall (Hermitage, Pa.), named the Patriot League’s Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, won the triple jump with a distance of 48’0” (14.63 meters) and placed third in the long jump with a career-best mark of 22’10-1/2” (6.97 meters). He has met the IC4A standard in each of the last-two weeks in the triple jump, while his long jump mark was less than three inches away from qualification.</p>

<p>Classmates Paul Harris (Woodbury, Minn.) and Craig Meekins (Baldwin, N.Y.) each posted IC4A marks in claiming first and second, respectively, last weekend. Harris crossed the finish line in 1:53.00, while Meekins followed with a 1:54.42 clocking.</p>

<p>The Midshipmen also owned the top-two marks in two throwing events last Saturday. Junior Darryl Hunter (Des Moines, Iowa) won the shot put with a career-best effort of 55’3/4” (16.78 meters) and junior Andre Barber (Carrollton, Texas) placed second with a toss of 50’9-1/4” (15.47 meters). Sophomore Christopher Bordino (Gastonia, N.C.) won the weight throw with his 50’1/2” (15.25 meters) performance, while senior Nate Stein (Sandusky, Ohio) came in second with a throw of 49’1-1/2” (14.97 meters).</p>

<p>James Madison will be making their second visit to Annapolis this season on Saturday, as the Dukes competed in the Navy Invitational on Dec. 1. In that meet, Doron White won the weight throw and placed fourth in the shot put. Last weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational, Rainer Fiala posted the seventh-fastest 300-meter dash time in school history with a time of 35.03 seconds.</p>

<p>Mount St. Mary’s also partook in the season-opening Navy Invitational, where the Mountaineers took home three top-two event performances. Mount St. Mary’s split its squad last weekend to compete at the Penn State Relays and Bucknell’s Gulden Relays. </p>

<p>Following this weekend’s action, Navy (3-1) will head on the road for the first time this season, traveling to the Penn State National Open on Jan. 26-27.</p>

<p>ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men’s track & field team registered victories in 11 of the 17 events in defeating James Madison and Mount St. Mary’s during its final indoor home meet of the season on Saturday in Halsey Field House.</p>

<p>The Midshipmen (5-1) racked up 179 points, followed Mount St. Mary’s 101 points and James Madison’s 74 points in third place.</p>

<p>“Overall, we had a decent day and gave some other guys experience in different events,” stated Navy head coach Stephen Cooksey. “We tried moving people around for two reasons – first, to protect us from becoming stale in the same events and second, preserve our legs for the second half of the season. With the big meets and championships ahead, we need to get ourselves prepared.”</p>

<p>Junior Paul Harris (Woodbury, Minn.) qualified for the IC4A Championship in a second event on Saturday. Harris, who had previously qualified in the 800-meter run, posted a first-place time of 1:02.69 in the 500-meter run. The clocking was more than three seconds faster than the second-place time and was only 0.38 second off the 10th-fastest time in school history.</p>

<p>For the third-consecutive meet, junior Darryl Hunter (Des Moines, Iowa) won the shot put with an IC4A-qualifing mark. Hunter uncorked a throw of 54’7-1/4” (16.64 meters) to claim first by nearly six feet.</p>

<p>Despite running in the event for the first time this season, sophomore Andrew Grant (Athens, Ga.) met the IC4A standard in the mile run. Grant crossed the finish line in 4:13.53, more than 10 seconds ahead of the second-place showing.</p>

<p>Registering an IC4A-qualifying effort for the third time this season in the triple jump was junior Dante Marshall (Hermitage, Pa.). Marshall nearly matched his season-best mark from last week with a distance of 47’9” (14.55 meters).</p>

<p>Junior Ron Belany (Haiku, Hawai’i) won the 55-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 7.80 seconds. In the sprints, junior William Ricks (Sussex, Va.) claimed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.26 seconds and senior Cameron Lindsay (Kernersville, N.C.) won the 400-meter dash with a 50.60-second showing. In the middle distance events, Jeff Sarchione (Alliance, Ohio) recorded a 1:56.38 clocking in the 800-meter run to win the event and freshman Matlack Gillin (Oreland, Pa.) followed with a first-place time of 2:34.77 in the 1,000-meter run.</p>

<p>Rounding out Navy’s event victories on Saturday was sophomore Christopher Bordino (Gastonia, N.C.) in the weight throw and senior Stephen White (Marietta, Ga.) in the high jump. Bordino released a throw of 51’11” (15.82 meters) and White cleared 6’8-1/4” (2.04 meters). </p>

<p>The Midshipmen will head on the road for the first time this season when they travel to the Penn State National Open next Friday and Saturday.</p>
