Hi, I have a question with which someone can help me with. I'm in the IB program (and love it) though I'm having problems taking tests. I can study and I know all the information, though when i get the test I forget everything. I don't know what is causing it, and my grades are suffering for it. It only started occurring in either 9th or 10th grade, and I'm worried that colleges won't want me because of my "BAD" grades.

This could be plain old test anxiety. Start by making an appointment with your classroom teachers and guidance counselor. They should have some suggestions for ways that you can reduce your fears.

Could it also be from stress from my parents? They are VERY controlling and try to run my life quite a bit.

I've looked at testing anxiety, which I know I have the characteristics of, though none of the causes (except exercising a lot, I do ride my bike when I go to tutor though).

Test anxiety means that you get so nervous about doing well that you aren't able to do well. Being scared of what your parents will say about a bad grade is, well, pretty stressful! Talk to your teachers and guidance counselor and see what advice they have on maintaining a more relaxed attitude when you face your exams. You also may want to find some classes that are more project based, which would allow you to demonstrate your competence in the subject without the stress of short time limits.

You sound like you have anxiety, which can be treated with medication, therapy, hypnosis, or meditation. Does your school have an on site school psychologist who can help you figure out what is up? That same person could meet with your parents later if you want him/her to. Good luck!

I have test anexity too but it is only on tests that deal with numbers like math and sometimes chemistry and i honestly don't know how to get over it. I have all As except in thoes two classes which chemisty is okay becasue its a B but im failing Alogebra 2 becasue i can't take the tests in that class. My teacher won't help me and my mom just yells at me. ANd i honestly don't knwo what to do about it anymore.

cmertin, most schools have a psychologist who either works at the school full time or visits to accommodate students needs. Ask your guidance counselor. if your family has insurance, you could tell your parents you are feeling a little anxiety (you do not have to spell out that THEY may be the cause of your anxiety) and ask to talk to a therapist. In case you don't know, therapists have to abide by patient confidentiality laws and they are not able to disclose anything you say to them unless someone's life in danger, so your parents will not know what you discuss with the therapist.
