Hi everyone,
I have my application for UF complete. Should I mention on my essay (or on the additional information section) that UF is my first choice? Or am I better off not mentioning at all?

Thanks for any help

The essay should never contain the words… " This school is my first choice…" as my English teacher told me, it is a death wish to mention such words. 500 words is short enough to write an essay that is intuitive and exciting, why would you clutter it with meaningless nonsense? How many other applicants do you think feel the same way? That sounded harsh but show interest by attending the school, contacting the admissions office through e-mail or phone and leave the essay alone.

nmcm007 although i am a resident of florida, i am not currently in usa so I cant visit the campus. How do you think I should convey to them that they are my first choice?
cheers

If there is a section for “why this college” I think it would be perfectly appropriate to mention that it’s your first choice. That said, the state schools I’m familiar with don’t consider “interest” in the application process. I don’t know if that’s true of Florida or not.
